Wish you could have seen those games as they happened. The anticipation was electric. Larry will always be number 1 with me. To understand how he got that good you need to read "Drive". He got this good through sheer determination and practice. He always knew where everyone was on the court. He is a basketball genius. Thanks for choosing this one

My husband is from Boston area, we lived there for about 3 years together and this was when Larry Bird played, we got to a couple games, he's da man. Loved to come out early for practice just to watch him warming up, anywhere on the court he can throw and make hoops. The Celtics have really never been the same IMO.

In the 90s, you had John Stockton, Jim Kerr, Tony Kucoch, were all star white players.

A great list. From the 80s I'd add Bill Lambier and Bill Walton to the list.

I was never close to my father...but we watched Bird...together. There is no explanation for Bird and his talent. His focus and drive were beyond the human spectrum...many athletes are driven, but Bird's will to win is otherworldly to me. Great reaction!😎

THe Mullet had mystical powers. I think he cut it in 1988 when the pain was overwheling. In 1989 he took a year off for surgery. For some of these stories, there is a several breakdowns from several points of view, including Larry's. The Duel and the 60 pt game both have it. Also, a more recent one talking about several (/) times he walked out where the Pacers were practicing and just shot 3's one after another in front of the amazed team Then walked away. He was 60+ at the time. I firmly believe he could win a 3 pt contest today. Running from rack to rack, maybe not, but the actual shoot, oh yes. EASILY. It would be great exercise for a man his age to get the blood moving and he's rich enough to hire someone to chase after the balls. I'd bet he does this alot. I do recommend the Making the Case for Larry Bird, and to really understand why Larry was the way he was try a long but very important video called the "Courtship of Rivals" It is soooooo gooood!

For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season

In regards to Livingston and Co., when you’re a true competitor, you can always see greatness. They were fined, and when asked they said that they had the best seat for the best performance, by anybody, and it was worth it.

Great white players in the 80s? Look no further than Larry's own teammate Kevin McHale -- his low-post game was n-a-a-sty good. He had moves mentioned in the same breath with Hakeem Olajuwan's Dream Shake. Watch some Kevin McHale post moves highlights !

Larry Bird is the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 club, the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, 3 point Champion three straight years, MVP three times straight (When competing against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and many more), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.

Got your facts wrong my friend. Bird scored his 60 points on March 12, 1985. I'm from Boston and had season tickets behind the visitors bench from 1980-1993. I heard more trash talking from Larry Legend than I can even remember. There was one time against the 76ers that Bird called Charles Barkley the "Pillsbury Dough Boy!" And he yelled it too. I thought I was gonna pee myself. He was hilarious!

Saw Bird play only once when the Celtics came to Oakland. The Warriors were pretty bad at the time and my Father and I were there to see Bird like pretty much everyone else in the Arena. Bird played 37 minutes and scored zero points. Don't get me wrong. Bird does many other things besides scoring. Look it up: 1/2/1981.

Larry is Ambidextrous; He Eats & Writes with His Left BUT He Is & Always Has Been Right Hand Dominate In Sports, Even When He Played Baseball/Softball He Always Played Right; Thats Why His Right Hand Got Messed Up In a Few different Ways Playing Sports & Bar Fights. Here Is a New Video That Just Came Out Called; (Why You Never Poke Larry Bird-A Trash Talk STORY Told by NBA Legends! by Nick Smith). It's really not a lot of trash talk it's mainly about One game against the Hawks & a Shoot out against Wilkins & also Larry was playing Hurt in this one. I think You will enjoy it.

“I would much rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird, because you have to play the game as a thinker when you’re playing [Bird]. You have to get inside his mind. Larry wasn’t quick, he couldn’t jump really high, but there were just some sleepless nights.” -James Worthy on Larry Bird, via ESPN SportsCentury

4:50 His teammate, Kevin McHale, was a great player and a white guy. There was also Bill Walton, a teammate of Larry's for a while. A guy who isn't often mentioned from the 1990s is Tom Chambers. He was athletic and a real scorer. 3.o

Great reaction. He was 100% entertainment to watch. Only he knew what was going to happen next because he had already rehearsed it in his mind 2 plays ago. LeBron is a great player but I'd pick Larry to build a team around. He had no quit, no heart, and an imposing will to win.

Pacer's practice, player's are on the court stretching. A 60 year old Larry Bird who was management with the Pacer's at the time. Bird walks on the court in a suit, grabs a ball and starts jacking 3s...10 in a row then just walks off and sits down like nothing happened. Player's are watching this and are like are you seeing this? One of the player's finally says...yep, that's legend for you.

Saw LB against the Pacers in Indy during the 80s. I had been watching him for years. Here’s the thing, though. He really didn’t seem like he was doing anything special. You could tell he was better than anyone on the floor but you didn’t get the hype from the TV announcers and so a lot of his greatness just looked, “normal.” I think he put up 32 or something. Prolly ten rebounds. He was sneaky spectacular and you could tell that was HIS team. It was an average night for The Legend but it looked sorta “unremarkable.” I could tell you it was the OPPOSITE with Jordan. With Jordan your eyes were on him every second he was on the floor. He DEMANDED your attention and you gave it to him. Bird was QUIET and deadly.

Wasn’t it Babe Ruth who pointed where he was going to hit a home run & that’s where it went. The other team would hate that. I had season basketball tickets in Toronto when Chicago had Jordan, Pippen, & Rodman. That was a team.
