If you saw larry legend play in person, like I saw him. You would say he's the Goat. He was unstoppable. Without a doubt the smartest most clutch player I ever seen. He was magical. From 85 - he retired, Larry played with a broken back that would lose its structural stability. It would lock up in abnormal positions. He would have to get adjustments just to be able to play. Sometimes going straight to the hospital after a game. To spend the night in traction. That's just one of the injuries that he played with. He didn't even use any pain meds, shots, etc. for any of his injuries. Yet he was still able to dominate and put up stats. He was the FOUNDING member of the 50/40/90 twice. He led the league in 3 pointers twice 85,86. FIRST 3pt contest winner in 86 then 87, 88. MVP 84 , 85, 86.. 2 Finals MVPs, 12 All star, 10 all NBA Teams, 3x All Defense selection. All in 13 years. It took Bird just two seasons to get his first ring. Larry turned the Celtics around his first season. From a 29 - 53 season to 61 - 21 season. Larry's one of 8 hall of famers to win rookie of the year & be named to the all NBA first team. The only one so far to have those honors after Larry is Tim Duncan. Larry Bird is the only player to win Rookie of the Year, League MVP, Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, coach of the year & executive of the year. Larry is the only player Jordan couldn't beat. 6 -0 playoffs; 17 - 11 reg. Don't kid yourself about "skill level" then, compared to now. Players in the 80s-90s could go. Just as athletic, and arguably MORE skilled. They didn't allow palming, carrying and traveling back then, like everyone gets away with now. Now, it's more "street-ball" than basketball. People view that as being more "athletic" and "skilled." I don't. But I'm an old man, so...

It's not a debate, Larry's the best basketball player to ever step on a court. Magic could do nothing better than Bird. Jordan was only a better one on one defender and finisher at the rim than Bird. Bird played with injuries that neither one of those guys ever had to play with. As far as anyone playing in the last 15 years. The NBA isn't a man's league anymore. It hasn't been for along time. It's just the WNBA 2.

Give Bird today's training and medical technology and he'd tear it up. A tall forward sharp shooter that can pass as good as a lot of guards and has eyes in the back of his head. A guy with a mental toughness only rivaled by Kobe and Jordan and a confidence to demand last second shots. He would probably not be the best player in the league, but with the lack of physicality on defense, he would definitely and consistently be top 3-5 every year.

@@trhansen3244 Really ? Dave Corzine ! Never even crossed my mind ! Dude averaged less than 10 points a game over his career ! Odd question for sure , when discussing Bird and Jordan ! Answer … I don’t know , where do you rank Kurt Rambis ?
