Jordan didn't start winning until after Larry Bird retired! LOL. I know Jordan's got a lot of respect for Bird. Cuz he knows how good that man is!

"damn that had 131 back then?!" Love your reactions...80's NBA was special. Was a Laker fan, not too much these days, but talk about some crazy games. Lakers/Celtics/Pistons/Bulls...earned a sub my friend!

Michael Jordan is a phenomenon. His abilities on the court were beautiful. But Bird and my personal most beautiful player, Dr. J, we’re just better team players. Larry was the best team player. No holes.

lol 131 back then? Actually the 70s and 80s had a HIGHER pace than todays game.. the 80s was predominately fastbreak offenses. thats why the players are so lean and cut back then compared to the BULKY 90s and 2000s players.. im a 90s fan myself but as a child I watched the celtics vs the lakers and it was beautiful basketball. the 90s was NOT beautiful basketball lol but i LOVED the intensity of the 90s. nice react Jordan1 Bird 1a

If I remember correctly. I think Larry LARRONIUS Bird played those last years(89-02) in a full body brace. He was just a badass #birdgang 🍀🐐💚

After Bird retired ...he took that cast/brace out in the woods ..used his shotgun on it & blew it to pieces!

I think so too. After he retired, they did a spinal fusion on his back. That was his second back surgery.

that behind the back from out of bounds pass in the olympics to Bird is one of my all time favorite plays...2 of the most iconic players in a rivalry their entire career making a successful save/assist/bucket...LEGEND... MJ is my GOAT..too many stats/accomplishments to deny him...but Bird is certainly sitting at the table for the discussion...Shot like Curry, passed like Magic, rebounded like a center (avgd more than Euwing at over 10rpg), clutch like no other, and trash talked like no one else as he's the OG of trash talk! but it is a little unfair to say MJ never beat Bird as it was never MJ vs Bird...it was MJ vs Celtics...big difference.....once MJ got a solid team (just like Bird had), he was unstoppable as we all know....like he said "one man can't beat the Boston Celtics"
@julianwilcox399 Жыл бұрын
I agree in principle, BUT you have to remember that Bird Also won a Championship with a previously bottom of the league poo team beating Moses, DrJ and magics lakers along the way. MJ could not win a championship with a poo team, only when he had a stacked team was he able to shine. The reason behind that? Is because he either didnt know or didnt have the game to make his teamates better, They had to already be better. Thats a huge difference between the 2. Also Statistics mean nothing without a reason behind them. Like I say to many people. Robert Horry has 7 rings , SO statistically he is bigger winner than MJ
@V12BenzAMG Жыл бұрын
@@julianwilcox399 fair enough and I agree that Bird was definitely a better "team guy" than MJ..all day long...Bird could definitely make a "poo team" better compared to MJ who was a pure scoring and defense machine.. as evidence even when he dropped 63 and the Celtics still won the game.. as for stats, yes, looking at ONE stat like "rings" is pointless, especially team related stats..but with individual stats, MJ is at the top of darn near everything per game in the post season and playoffs and is usually waaaaay above 2nd place or has done things multiple times that others have never done or only done once...so yes, one stat can be pointless, but as a whole they can tell you a lot...stat-wise MJ, Kareem, and Wilt are still way above others... Here's some stats (non ring/team based) on how many times they led the NBA in a category: MJ led the NBA 134 times in 19 categories Wilt led the NBA 138 times in 19 categories Kareem led the NBA 78 times in 15 categoried Lebron led 59 times in 12 categories The key is that MJ led 11 categories more than anyone ever Wilt led 6 more than anyone ever Kareem led 4 more than anyone ever Lebrons leads 1 category (tied with MJ for 9 times leading in vorp). Times finishing in the top 3: MJ 170 times in 18 categories and leads 9 categories more than anyone ever Wilt 190 in 19 categories and leads 7 more than anyone ever (1 tied with MJ) Kareem 175 in 24 categories and leads 4 more than anyone ever (2 tied with MJ) Lebron 136 times in 15 categories and leads 5 (2 tied with MJ) and compared to each other in the playoffs per game stats: MJ leads 6 of the 8 categories he's in, 2 more than anyone ever Wilt leads 3 of 5 and 1 more than anyone ever Kareem leads 1 of 4 and 0 more than anyone ever Lebron leads 1 of 10 and 0 more than anyone ever so yeah, team ball (which is what basketball is supposed to be) BIRD all day...but individual dominance...MJ all day.. just two completely different games and they had different strategies of attack, but both successful still tho, seeing Magic, Bird, and Jordan on the same team was once in a lifetime :) my favorite 3 players and pretty much my childhood NBA memories :)
@julianwilcox399 Жыл бұрын
@@V12BenzAMG Like I said, Stats are useless without words and meaning behind them. I do see what you are saying and I fully agree that MJ was something special. But I also was alive to watch both eras and there are reason other then " he was better" as to why MJ's stats are such. Having watched multiple games live between the 2 , It was obvious to me that only thing MJ had over Bird was youth and Athletic ability . Bird could still go toe to toe when his back held up. What about stats like most games lost taking a shot when a team mate was in a better position ? That one MJs waaay above Bird but as i said all along Stats are useless without reason
@V12BenzAMG Жыл бұрын
@julianwilcox399 again..all fair points and I believe we agree more than disagree...the shots losing a game when another teammate is in position is a valid observation, but isn't really relevant when you see that his style worked for him..6 rings and double three-peat tho (being the best player on the court) and MJ never lost 3 games in a row for those 3 peats..so he won plenty and almost had back to back 70+ seasons...I'm fully with you that prime Bird/Celtics got the best of a young MJ...and even old Bird still showing he's a legend against Jordan with Pippen. MJ was still coming into his prime as Bird was on the way out of his..but imagine Bird with 2023's medical technology/advancements for his back/feet as well as exercise, fitness, nutrition advancements 😲

It's wild that this great player who most people barely know of has this endless number of these unreal in the clutch stories. Wait until you see the last second shot where he tells the entire Sun's bench, including the coaches, what's about to happen with less then 10 seconds on the clock. One story like that is unbelievable, but the stories never end. Hard to believe if there wasn't video and other stars to tell the stories.

I love Parrish. He played with heart and was really good. I also love the rest of the team, but of course Larry Bird is my favorite. I looked up what surgery then did on him after the one season ended. They had to cut the Achilles tendons to remove bone spurs that were each one fifth of an inch long and one sixth of an inch wide on both of his feet. I think many players would not come back from that, but he did.

Larry GOAT Bird

Makes you wonder how the 90s would've gone with a healthy Bird. Given broken Bird was hanging with Jordan even then. We were robbed of some great battles 😂
@trekkiexb5 Жыл бұрын
I think Bird would have taken one ring from the Lakers and probably one ring from Jordan. Pistons would be ringless. The problem was even with a healthy Bird, the Celtics bench was thin at that time. And with Magic gone, his enthusiasm for the game would have been muted. Strange to say, MJ isn't Magic to Bird. At then end, MJ would still be the GOAT in many people's eyes, but more people would remember Larry.
@Wesker1984 Жыл бұрын
@trekkiexb5 tbh it'd probably be exactly how I have them, joint GOAT. Same amount of rings (your scenario has them at 5 rings each) with two different leadership and playing styles that were just as effective. And both having the same respect for eachother, always complimentary about eachother. The common perception would be joint GOAT. Mike would've been Larrys focus post-Magic.
@trekkiexb5 Жыл бұрын
@@Wesker1984 Yeah, but with the Bias issue then Reggie Lewis (very sad, he was good), the Celtics didn't really have future after Larry. Which showed with Pierce finally in 2008. It takes alot to build up a team and Red was the best at it. The MJ ring in my scenario is iffy due to that. Larry could carry a team on his shoulders, but not for an entire season. Well not in the '90's. Age was catching up with him. Also, he was diagnosed with a heart condition soon after retirement, which is scary, especially with Reggie. The Pacers wouldn't have scared the crap out of MJ at the end of the decade, because that was all Larry's leadership. That's another scenario to think about: What if Larry stayed coaching the Pacers? He might have gotten his 4th ring with them. Neat ideas to think about.

MJ and Wilt Chamberlain were the 2 greatest individual players to play the game. But basketball is a team sport. Suddenly a bird named Larry. Suddenly appears and just wreaks havoc and can be seemingly impossible to beat. And he was. MJ had to do alot of maturing and pride swallowing to add the team element to his game. And wah la 6 championships later. Earned every one of them. The last being the toughest. Going against coach Bird. And barely squeaked by. Larry was still causing havoc for Jordan. And he didn't even play. 😂 Bird 8s the goat of team play and clutchness.
