Bird vs KD? Best clutch player- Bird. Better passer- Bird by far. Better rebounder- easily Bird. Better defender- equal. Most rings- Bird. Most MVP's- Bird. The only stat KD leads scoring avg. KD gets about 3 pts/gm more than Legend for their careers. But because their shooting %'s are virtually equal across the board, the fact that KD avg's about 3-4 more 3 pt attempts per game explains KD's lead. Love to know why you think KD is better other than the fact he is your favorite.

The ball always moves faster than the players. Bird understood that concept and got around the most athletic of players by a fast brain and quick hands. No need for 3pointers and dunking when you can shoot and pass anywhere on the court at will. Especially when you are that good at finding an opening to a teammate through a very tiny window.

Larry is easily the best SF ever to play the game. He's also one of the 3 best ever, regardless of position. He dominated an era when the league in general and the East in particular, was ridiculously deep with talent - by far the best ever. How good was he? He was the best player on the Celtics, and had a winning overall record (and perfect playoff record) against Jordan's Bulls. I also get sick of the remark that he was "unathletic". He was fast enough to beat anyone to any loose ball. He jumped high enough to be a double digit career rebounder. He was physically tough enough that the meanest, nastiest players in the league thought twice about fighting him. To my thinking, that made him plenty athletic, even if he looked a bit goofy. Any real basketball fan who DOESN'T put respect on Larry's name, simply doesn't know what he's talking about.
@cindyknudson27152 жыл бұрын
The trouble with highlights sometimes, in my opinion, is that a viewer doesn't necessarily distinguish between Larry's running speed in his prime years as opposed to when he was on the cusp of retirement due to injury. There IS a difference between Larry's speed in, for example, 81 or 86 and 91/92 when he was spending some nights in the hospital in traction in order to be able to play the next day because of his back. What he did on the court in those circumstances can be rather mind-blowing in their own right. IMHO 😏

You can certainly have Durant as your favorite. I have no problem with that. There are too many variables to definitively say who's the goat. Larry Bird is my favorite. Sooo much fun to watch. You never knew what he was going to pull off. Stats don't show what was really going on. He could easily have made more baskets, but be was a team player. And, they double and triple guarded him, so he would get the ball to the open man. But, since he was such a good shooter and passer, they never knew if he was going to shoot or pass.

I grew up a fan of Dr. J, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan, but the player who could beat you the most ways with the most skills was Larry Bird. Bird had the best combination of inside scoring, mid-range scoring, 3-point scoring, passing, rebounding, defense, basketball IQ, trash talking, work ethic, clutch performance, and leadership. Bird had it all from day 1 in the NBA. The others gained some of these things after several years. Bird was the Batman of the NBA. He was always several moves ahead of the competition, best clutch shooter of all-time, #2 all-time with winning percentage (Jordan is #40), he had the passing gift, and he could beat you more ways than just shooting. Jordan was dangerous when he had the ball. Bird was always dangerous - with or without the ball. Bird is top three all-time with Jordan and LeBron, but Bird is the best small forward of all-time. Hands down. "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird." - Legendary Lakers Coach Pat Riley “I would much rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird, because you have to play the game as a thinker when you’re playing [Bird]. You have to get inside his mind. Larry wasn’t quick, he couldn’t jump really high, but there were just some sleepless nights.” -James Worthy on Larry Bird, via ESPN SportsCentury " The difference between Jordan and Bird was that Jordan made you look slow, Bird made you look stupid. " - James Worthy “Larry Bird can’t jump, and he’s not that quick… But he makes up for it by using his head, analyzing the opponent. It makes him better than the competition… Consequently, he doesn’t have a weakness.” - Michael Jordan Only one man dominated Jordan. His name was Larry Joe Bird. Bird even dominated Jordan after Bird’s back problems got worse in 1989.

6:47 actually, he did it 3 times in that game. he hit a three to tie the game that was waved off, another three from a different spot the tie the game again off (of 1 foot) and then the third shot was from the same spot as the first one, but that one was a two-pointer that won it in overtime (also off of one foot)... He was an inch inside the 3-point line. I do believe it's the "making the case" for Larry Bird video that details that one. if you watch enough Larry Bird videos, I cannot imagine that you would have Durant or LeBron above him in your rankings. Jordan and Magic, really, are the only possibilities for me... And I do find them to be arguable

Guys today I don't think could hang w/ those legends when in their prime. For example Bird played half his career hurt, a messed up back, to where when he was on the bench he didn't sit, he had to lay down on the hard floor, when he came back from that injury in this film, he was concussed and a fractured cheek. Players aren't tough like that today. The game has changed to protect players for this reason, but those old guys played like it was war..
