To this day I consider Csonka the Greatest Dolphin in Franchise history. Primarily because of his importance of getting the Dolphins to those 3 straight Superbowls, capped off with his dominating MVP performance in Superbowl VIII.

Leaving zonk out, who one year only fumbled once and Jim kiick had no fumbles,Jim brown seldom fumbled. There are far too many so called great running backs and receivers who were nothing but fumble bums and pass droppers that led to many rules changes and elimination of rules to cover their ineptitude and keep the dumbed, downed, doped up decadent public watching the over rated, propped up, overpaid bumbling bums. The ground cannot cause a fumble and the allowance of a dropped pass to be called incomplete when the fumble (no longer a fumble) cause the bum lost the ball when hit. The old time greats with no gloves and many rules could posses the ball for a nano second and although almost all of them never dropped a pass or very, very, very few, under the new rules the pass droppers were so inept the had to come up with the rule that he did not have time for complete possession when hit. Pure bunk to cover pure ineptitude and that are just two of dozens of rules changed or eliminated.

I was fortunate enough too watch the Dolphins during the Czonka years and it was amazing to see. He made defenders look like preschoolers. The only other Fullback that came close was John "The Deisel" Riggins IMO.

He wasn't just running over guys. He was dragging a would be tackler and beating him with his forearm repeatedly trying to knock him off. I'm sure he would argue it was necessary roughness, but the refs made the right call.

@@keithknox5829 Yes. This is a cathartic video to watch. Revenge of the fullbacks. Never saw all these plays put together before this collection, but I well remember the championships Dolphins and Czonka's brutality in those years. Butkus was a heart attack for running backs, no rhyme intended. They actually met once in 1971. Czonka had 103 yards on 16 carries and 2 TDs, one rushing, one pass. Say no more about Czonk.

I played 5 seasons with a helmet and 17 seasons of flag. Only two or three of the in-game hits with a helmet on would have been legal today and the ones without contact from the helmet were probably considered dirty at the time. Heck, a bunch of the hits playing flag wouldn't be okay in the NFL today (giving them that shoulder over the middle when the ball arrives).

In early February 1971, Larry was visiting 95th Evac hospital in DaNang. I was recovering from shrapnel wounds and he came to my bedside to talk with me. He was very nice and said all the right things to a wounded soldier. Nice guy! He was accompanied by Greg Landry and Gene Washington. We appreciated their visit.

One of the toughest running backs to ever play in the NFL. The '72-'73 Dolphins (Perfect Season) had a great lineup with Csonka, Kiick, Morris, Griese, Warfield, Little, and so many others! What a team!

Czonka was one of my first favorite players. I had a 39 Dolphins Jersey. I actually got his autograph after he retired....he was the guest speaker at a dinner banquet. Lol, he told this story of some veteran spitting tobacco juice on his new leather shoes his first day of camp.

Speed and quickness aren't exactly his greatest assets but it doesn't seem to really matter to his success. Dude is an immovable force. Now they either grow backs or make them that big right out of high school with the speed and quickness to match. The game has changed. Csonka is up to the task, but he would probably be a linebacker in today's game.

I was at the HS next to Stow where Csonka went. You should've seen the matchup game--we had Stan White (LB, Baltimore Colts) Tom DeLeone (Center, Bengals) Tom Campana (RB, Rookie of the Year, Saskatchewan Rough Riders) and Mike Adamle (RB, several NFL teams) and they had The Zonk. Amazing. I still remember one play where Larry and Stan both lowered their heads and collided with each other near midfield. What a spectacle. You don't see hits like that in HS ball.

It's a shame Csonka didn't stay longer in the NFL. I believe him and Jim Kiick left Miami in their prime to go play in WFL . The WFL came along to try and compete with the NFL. They offered some star athletes of the NFL a boatload of money to try and draw them away from NFL to their new league to give it legitimacy. .. Csonka and Kiick lost a good 3 years of prime playing years. Miami could have won another Super Bowl or 2 in the 1970s had Csonka and Kiick stayed there in Miami.

Not just Butch and Sundance, but Warfield left also. Warfield is arguably the best WR of that era, so it was a huge loss. The 1975 Dolphins were darned good too, even without those three. It's not likely, but it's also not a huge stretch, to think they could have picked up one more Super Bowl win if they'd kept the band together.

Remember 72 Dolphins. Christmas night longest game ever - Yepremian, Stenerud. I was from Memphis. Memphis Southmen where Kiick, Csonka and Warfield went. Went to a few games. Good ball. Don't care about the politics behind it all, just love the game. Memphis State put out a few good games but it was hell, maybe until 2019. Ozzy rules; beautiful music!!!!!!!!

There have been some great power runners throughout NFL history, but Zonk was the most powerful. I saw him knock Alan Page (or Carl Eller) airborne gor several yards in the Super Bowl. One game vs St. Louis he did the same number on All-Pro db Roger Wehrle. There were faster fullbacks, but NONE ran with more power than Larry Csonka.
