Yeah in the earliest seasons, I believe they did almost all improvising. The actors were giving the story arc & the the major beats to hit, but yes, most of it was improvised. And you can see Cheryl Hines, the lone star, that was not a comedic performer prior to the show, struggle to find the right words. But she’s a rockstar too! It’s great! Every season! But the first 4 seasons were just the best! And more believable. The improv made this show comedic gold.
