Fellow gays, why do we want to get married again?
@mrkrabappleson9 жыл бұрын
Todd Boden Straight guy here; I respected the gay movement decades ago when it said, "keep the government out of our bedroom". Now, the movement seems to have been co-opted by politicians who've changed the stance to, "get the government INTO our bedrooms"! Which doesn't make much sense to me. Anyway, I wish you gays all the best. We straights folks (especially men) are abandoning marriage since it's a fucking racket. The man always loses and the woman eventually takes all his stuff. I'll be very curious to see how gay people handle divorce though as gay marriage becomes more common. I think the government supports gay marriage now because straight people aren't doing it anymore. Lot's of money for the economy, lawyers, etc in the marriage/divorce business. Do you think gays are rushing to get married now that it's legal?
@mrkrabappleson9 жыл бұрын
V. V. Malazan -">hetero couples has scenarios where the woman are egging their 'man' to enter confrontation in theater, to "fight for them after an insult." And similar primitive bias..." Yes that's true. Women rejected their traditional gender roles many decades ago but still seek to hold men to OUR traditional gender roles which is why marriage/divorce is so unfair for men. In fact, I would say nearly ALL male/female relationships are based on this double standard and are extremely unfair to men. It's a testament to how much men desire women that most men keep putting up with it but these days are coming to an end as men keep walking away from women for these reasons. ->"I can see the disappearance of gender roles being a healing factor of the marriage institution, unlike what the republican prescribed." Yea, the republicans generally push the traditional conservative model (trad-con) but that model is dead and gone. Those still clinging to it are living in a fantasy if you ask me. Many women are now seeking to resurrect this role because so many men are NOT marrying them and they miss their meal ticket and still want men to provide for them. ->"...with gay couples, they're free from gender roles, aren't they?" I'm not sure. I think it depends. It seems to me many gay couples mimic the male/female dynamic to some degree such as guys who are "tops" and take on the more dominant role in the relationship and guys who are "bottoms" being the more submissive but I'm not gay and I'm not an expert but I've known at least one gay couple that was just like that. It seems to me being gay automatically makes you a bit more free from gender roles from the start since you're not following the standard hetero dynamic anyway.
@mrkrabappleson9 жыл бұрын
V. V. Malazan ->"There's nothing more frightening than when you're used to the privilege of masculinity and become stripped away from it." You mean the ILLUSION of "male privilege"?? Men have fewer rights, live shorter lives, work in more dangerous situations, have higher death rates, pay more taxes and receive far fewer benefits than women. Nothing in that is a "privilege". ->"It really is an man-made identity..." There is a tremendous amount of what makes up the genders that is biological, genetic in origin. It's certainly not all just a social construct. Our roles might be, but much of that is also based on biology too. In any case, we don't HAVE to adhere to traditional gender roles but we have to be honest about where they come from. ->"Guess what issue drove me out of my community? Yup. insecure people I was fighting for." I don't know what you mean by this at all. Can you please explain?
@Tsumami__7 жыл бұрын
+mrkrabappleson your personal issues are so obvious.

Most of the stores are for women and their very specific wants, home making, fashion and appearance enhancement. Most of the TV shows are for women. AARP magazine reported that 70% of the wealth in the country is in the hands of women over 50. TV advertising and shows are based on the concept that men are complete idiots, basically hate speech in it's purest form. Women feel free to blab about their husband's/boyfriend's every word or action to their friends in a ridiculing manner. Many women communicate implicitly, which men cannot understand but are held responsible for anyway. Men understand that women are very different from men and make accommodation, however normal masculinity is "wrong" and needs to be fixed. They fall completely for men who are total assholes, like complete fools, have children, ruin the children's and their lives and then blame the world for it.

@roshanjay72 жыл бұрын
Jokes aside, if you’re in a marriage with someone who mentions your faults in their wedding vows etc, the concept of *eternity* can be - pretty..... pretty.... pretty.. pretty daunting. So forget about having to spend eternity with an individual and instead focus on *eternally serving the Principle of Love to the utmost.* Then you are doing right by them, and hopefully over the course of time they will do right by you. As difficult as some marriages can be, I can guarantee if you came into this life and found each other worthwhile enough to become eternally and exclusively committed to each other, your particular connection would be a strong one built up over a *very long* period of time (1). At times you might feel is this the right person for me because you are just not connecting, especially if they are tormenting you. But that is because either *one or both* of you haven’t taken the time to apply yourself to developing a deeply spiritual connection first and foremost. If you decide that is pointless and just go deeper into desire to satisfy your senses, or else give up on whoever you are exclusively committed to for whatever reason. Then you are doomed because you are getting further and further away from that ideal relationship in *Principle.* And you would have to waste time starting all over again instead of building on the connection you *already* have. However, it’s critically important to understand that earth is a mix of Love, Compassion, Joy, Harmony and sensual greed, hatred, ignorance. Which means ultimately, the only thing preventing hell on earth are those who follow their Spiritual Principles Righteously. This means earthly existence is not about finding the superficially *perfect* person and living the superficially *perfect* life. It’s about *serving* whichever Spiritual Principles you are *Lovingly* reborn into by finding a *good* person and living a *good* life. Then through developing that deeply spiritual connection you should be able to grow in the Wisdom needed to achieve your dreams. Then everything will fall into place as it should as your existences become conceptually *converged* through the strength of your Righteous Spiritual Principles.

DeathtoRaiden1 Literally no negatives? That's a pretty strongly worded idea. There's a reasonable probability that there is going to be a difference of opinion 999 trillion years into it. Which, by the way, 999 trillion years is still smaller than 0.0000000000001% of how long you'll actually be alive...infinitely smaller, in fact. Inevitably a person will reach a point where you have learned everything and seen everything they possibly can, and then realize it was all a raindrop in a fucking limitless ocean. It seems a bit rash to think there are literally no negatives.
@roberts37417 жыл бұрын
DeathtoRaiden1 there's always that one guy who looks past the joke so he can get on a soapbox and tell the world that he's right and billions of others are wrong. I guess it was your turn. Since you bring up the subject, I'm guessing your belief in no afterlife means you don't believe in God - because people are scared of dying. In my opinion, that's a limited viewpoint and an extreme oversimplification. You're right, of course - people don't want to die. My mom died when she was 38 and I was in a panic when I turned that age. But there are so many things that you aren't accounting for. Like this compulsive need to be part of something bigger and to understand more. To inch closer and closer to discovering the meaning of everything. To not only find our purpose but to know where we came from, and why we're here at all. There may very well be an evolutionary need to fear death, but here is no need for human to possess the other traits. Those things don't preserve the species - in fact, they make our lives kind of miserable if you think about it. We're always reaching for something, trying to connect.
@roberts37417 жыл бұрын
DeathtoRaiden1 DeathtoRaiden1 Wrong. What made your comment different from the rest was that you stated that eternal life doesn't exist. The others simply weighed the pros and cons of such a thing. You did that, to be sure, but not before belittling anyone who thinks it's possible.("It's hilarious that you believe this shit"). Don't blame me for steering the conversation in that direction.

I'm reminded here of two incidents: First, a club called 'Catch A Rising Star', NYC, 1976 (where Pat Benatar was discovered sometime later). I was in there one night when Larry David was attempting to do a stand up comedy act. Within a couple of minutes of his act, a woman starts to loudly heckle him; so he points at her and turns to the audience and says: "There I go again, folks; driving women to lesbianism." Second, a movie theatre in Washington, D.C. during the 80s', and I'm there watching Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin in 'All Of Me' (by Carl Reiner). The plot: Due to some cosmic accident, the soul of the Steve Martin character merges with a dead woman played by Lily Tomlin, and hijinks ensue. There's a funny scene in the bathroom, where the Steve Martin character has just taken a pee, and he looks up into the mirror, and in place of his own reflection, he sees the character played by Lily Tomlin, and she says: "How dare you say 'penis' to a dead woman." (smile).
