@logancurl9526
@logancurl9526 5 жыл бұрын
@@JeanLucCaptain no, not at all. I've done tons of reading and research on all kinds of weapon platforms, especially the M16 family of rifles and carbines, and I've never heard or read such a claim. Furthermore, i build numerous AR 15's every year, and based on the limited knowledge I have, I don't even see how one would go about trying to do that, or more importantly WHY someone would attempt such a thing. But I do personally know several Vietnam vets, one being my grandfather whom served 3 tours over there, and 2 other vets I know quite well, one Army and abd the other Navy (although his job was usually not on a ship, and could be considered a type of "infantry-esque" m.o.s) told me that depending on what unit you were in, and how well the members of your unit collected enemy magazines and ammo, most of them preferred to carry Chinese or Russian AKM (commonly called AK-47) rifles that had been captured from enemy forces, or collected from the battlefield after a fight. The navy guy said that nearly his entire platoon carried enemy AKM's, each with a complete load-out of good. Magazines, and he said they had more captured 7.62x39 ammo than you could ever wish for back at his unit. And this was carried instead of their issued service rifles, M14's and M16's, which were usually left wherever they called "home" base any particular time. He said you just had to be absolutely sure to keep track of your issued weapon, to not get in serious hot water
@JeanLucCaptain
@JeanLucCaptain 5 жыл бұрын
@@logancurl9526 that is very interesting! not surprising that US troops dumped their unreliable and clunky M-14s and early m-16's for captured AKMs. but apparently, the reason why these m16s were modified (it was a very limited issue modification of car-15's) was so that firing your weapon wouldn't immediately make you a US soldier by sound at least. it was used in DEEP recon or black ops units.
@wayneelliot2827

I joined the USMC at 17 years old. Trained with the M-14. We were blindfolded and the lights were turned off. We could take that weapon apart,clean the weapon,and put the weapon back together,ready to fire. We go to infantry training later on down the line,and we are handed an M-16. None of us knew what this weapon was,nor did we know how to field strip it. Luckily we had a recruit who had been Army and he taught us how to clean the M-16.!

That aimpoint really brings back the memories. When i was 17 back in 88 my mom bought me my first handgun, a ruger mk2 target model. She asked the guy at the gun counter to put a laser sight on it (no clue why, but cool mom) and he brings this laser sight out that was about the size of a carton of cigarettes. He says, you really don't want this, its too big and you got to wear these special glasses during the daylight to see the laser. He passes me this aimpoint and says this is what you want. So we bought it, waited the 7 or 15 days to pick up a pistol in those days and he mounted it up and zeroed it and i shot it like that for a while. Then i got my first ar15 in 89, an olympic arms rifle, 20" barrel with the a2 furniture but an a1 upper receiver, first gun I ever bought myself, with my own money. After a couple of range trips I got the wild idea to mount my aimpoint onto it, got basically that exact mount and put it on there. Shot it for a while in really early 2 gun matches. What a great trip down memory lane.

Trijicon refused to honour the lifetime guarantee last time I tried to have it recharged , perhaps they will honour it now they are reproducing them again . Must be pushing 40 years old now and still in great condition. In those days you looked after your kit and it would look after you .

CAR-15 is a bit of a misnomer but was commonly used when speaking of Commando variants. CAR-15 was in reality a Colt family of weapons proposal that never really went anywhere. It included the Colt 603 (M16A1 rifle), Colt 605 Infantry Leader’s carbine that looked like a dissipator but was 15” barrel, full length rifle handguards, Colt 607 Commando with 10” barrel and modified cut-down triangle handguards with cut-down rifle stock that would telescope, Colt 608 USAF Survival Carbine, and Colt belt-fed AR-15 machine-gun with heavy barrel. The 607 evolved into the XM177 with dedicated handguards and the new telesctock, which later was refined into the XM177E2 with 11.5” barrel and 4.5” moderator, same receivers as the M16A1.

In 79 & 80 the variant I was issued had the 11.5” barrel with a 4” muzzle device. We were also 100mph taping a cut off mop handle under the foregrip and rigging adjustable slings with the issue black sling and para cord using prusic knots to adjust. I purchased my own Bushnell 3.5x scope and carry handle mount. Amazingly maintained zero when swapping with the AN/PVS 2 starlight scope.

That CAR-15 may seem like a dated design. But I will bet the Special Forces guys that carried them in that era could have accomplished their missions with Garands, M1 carbines, and Thompson SMG’s if they had to.

Old school is good, brother. I'm sure a lot of guys would roll their eyes today but I'm thinking that weapon served you well and put rounds on target. Well enough to bring you home and that's all that matters. Thanks for all you do, Larry.

Yeah they may talk shit but that powerful IR flashlight combined with some AN-PVS7 night vision googles is a killer combo. The only thing out of date is the old Aimpoint but even that is better than irons for what his mission was.

Ah, the weapon that started all of my hopes and fantasies about what my military career was going to be like, but then Uncle Sugar replaced it by the time I got into the community. It was like your high school sweetheart broke up with you at prom, but then I received my first "Mk18" and it was like the PMOY slapped your sweetheart for breaking your heart and then blew you in the parking lot.

Its not the firearms themselves really, its just the lights and optics that have improved and the lights and optics wouldn't have helped us much back in the 90s when i was in the infantry. Lights were a total no-no, youd be killed if you turned a light on at night..l and optics wouldnt have helped you much either bc in the warfare we were training for it was all about vietnam style ambush, you never saw the enemy they just shot at you from concealment. All this new stuff you have came from a new warfare thats more like a law enforcement type situation. Mechanized house to house fighting. Way we fought and trained back in the 70s 80s and 90s was alot different, lights and optics werent needed, it was all close range ambush at night in the bushes..low visibility in thick vegetation.

AlaskanGunGeek I don’t know a lot about slow mo video editing, but I think once you slow it down to a certain point you can’t even tell what you’re hearing because it’s so slowed down. Maybe less editing on the shots at regular speed, but I don’t think there’s much Larry can do for the slow mo shots that would make them sound better than adding a little editing.

His camera doesn't record slow-motion sound. So playing the audio in slow motion would leave 'gaps' where the audio wasn't recorded. Or something like that. Basically, Larry said his camera doesn't record sound.

It's getting really bad. Like it was okay with the slow mo, but the video game gun sounds on the normal speed stuff and the weird noises when the shots hit the steel are just horrid.
