The joke is that Larry didn't understand the sentimental value those specific flowers had and viewed strictly in numerical terms. In his eyes he wasn't stealing, he was basically borrowing.

There's a little bit of Larry in all of us... sadly. Not my proudest moment. I remember one time, I got home from work and I was tired and hungry. My sister asked me to babysit my niece. I wanted to say no because I was afraid I couldn't stay up but my niece was tired, as well. So, I reluctantly said yes. Anyway she fell a sleep. Then, I realized how hungry I was and noticed there was 6 piece chicken tender, with fries, in the fringe with two packets of BBQ sauce. I ate it. Several hours pass. The knocking on the door wakes me and my niece. My niece immediately tells her mom that she's hungry. The roosters have come home to roost.
