In agreement with my favorite US military officer, Colonel Larry Wilkerson, and adding to his extremely wise comment, let's not forget a bit of history that you won't find in Wikipedia. A documented minimum of 7 Roman Emperors were arrested and never executed or harmed in any way, by Persians, during ancient times when Romans would attack the borders of Persia. Only one Emperor was killed in self-defense as he tried to kill a Persian king with a lance. A beautiful rock carving/relief near Bistun, Iran shows two of the aforementioned Roman Emperors. The one on his knee in front of Persian King Shapur I on horse back (in the Persian Sassanian Dynasty), is Roman Emperor Valerian. And, behind Shapur's horse another Roman Emperor (Phillip The Arab) is shown tied to a chain but totally unharmed. Unlike Roman leaders, ancient Persian Kings and/or Commanders actually lead their troops and fought along with them at the very front line. (sorry, I don't know the proper military title for such Commanding officers who fought at the very front.) In these ancient times all Persian leaders were from Aryan Tribes, such as Commander Arashk who founded the Parthian aka Ashkanian Dynasty (erroneously referred to as Parthian Empire, instead of the Parthian Dynasty). The Muslim conquest by Arabs had not taken place yet. So the Persians were chiefly Aryan Caucasians like their Northern cousins, the Russians. I was on aircraft carriers for three cruises during that viet nam thing, It was a hoot. Steak and Lobsters for dinner at least once a month, great liberty ports with hospitable natives. Even as a dumb teenager i could not see myself on a carrier today. we were un touchable in 1969. Aircraft carriers are operated by mostly teen agers.
