I'm a bit embarrased, I've been lifting for 25 years...hit 40 last year and have always feared tearing a pec despite THINKING my form was always solid...WRONG. Normally I use dumbells for pressing to keep my elbows tucked, but I was being impatient one day and decided to warm up on smith machine bench. Terrible decision because it's harder to position the weight and tuck elbows the same as free weights and ended up tearing my pec right as I started lowering 225. I'm 10 months post surgery, lifting consistently again and extremely aware of my elbows for pressing. This video really helped me visualize what I need to be shooting for, thanks Larry!

My shoulder started to really hurt a lot a year ago and I always benched the way Terry did. So I decided to relearn how to bench too. Which meant dropping the weight a lot, and basically starting back over with next to nothing, increasing the reps, and learning how to bench all over again. My shoulder is getting better. It's not 100%, but it's getting there. Also feel like your front delts come more into play benching the correct way, kind of made me realize my front delts were under developed. I'm 53 and my goal isn't to be big and muscular anymore, it's just to be fit and enjoy exercising for the rest of my life.
