Its everyones choose to spend money on a ticket to see bands playing playback or backing tracks and playing every night exact the same set list as the day before, or you see Metallica, playing life and be surprised by their set list changes every night.

This bullshit "lars fail" trend. You go out and play live with 30000 cameras on you, lets count the mistakes. Bands that don't make mistakes are well oiled machines that play the same set-list every gig, If Metallica decided that they were just going to play 16 songs, of course they would play them more polished. Having said that, yes he shit the bed a bit here... but he recovered which switches from fail to a save.

Lars has never been that great. Even in what was supposed to be the prime of his career while recording the Black Album, his drum tracks were heavily doctored. I know someone who worked in the studio and when he told me this, I thought he was full of shit. Flash forward to KZbin and you find out the truth.

They actually did talk about replacing him at one point in the mid 80's. They backed out on it though. I guess his seniority outweighs his bad performance but they play live a lot so it's kind of confusing. One of those things we'll never understand I guess.
