My best memories of working on the farm is when dad brought me lunch. He would pick up a whole rotisserie chicken or ribs from the local meat market, a loaf of bread and six pack of Dr. Pepper and he and I would eat on the tail gate of his truck. The was the best tasting chicken ever.

For the alternator on your International tractor, there are two types of alternators used in that vintage of machinery... a one wire and a 3 wire version. When you had the alternator rebuilt, the rebuilder might have installed a one-wire regulator instead of the proper 3-wire regulator. A 3 wire regulator has an Exciter wire that helps get the alternator working, especially at low RPMs. A one-wire alternator depends on some magnetism still being in the rotor from the last time you used the tractor... which might have been weeks or months before. You usually need to rev the engine up to get it to start working, and a diesel does rev very high compared to a gas engine. So my bet is either the rebuilder did not install a proper 3 wire regulator, or the exciter wire is not providing power to the alternator when the engine key is turned ON.

Have you considered adding a Lincoln Auto Greasing System to your heads and combine? They use them in mining equipment, big trucks, plow trucks, and many other applications. They’re also fairly affordable. I believe Michigan Fluid Power sells and installs them. If you need it, I could give you a contact for them.

Thanks for another great content video during harvest season. It was certainly interesting and enjoyable to watch. This has been breakdown day for sure. Chet was able to fix his in the field and Brody had to go to the shop to fix his. Thanks to kibble service tech for coming to help get Brody’s combine going. Appreciated I am sure. Busy busy time with harvest right now. Like the new shirt Amy had on. Heard there were more new shirts. Huge Thanks to Amy for bringing lunch out to the field for all of the workers. Amy your huge breakfast lunch’s are liked by everyone that is for sure!!!! Thanks again Amy!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Dougo for going to South Dakota to get parts for Brody’s machine. Guess that is about it. Considering how much wear and tear combined get I guess one should expect some unfortunate parts to break. You all get them going again pretty soon. Nice work Larsons and kibble. You all take care. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

If the alternator seems to not start charging for an hour, one possibility is the engine front crank pulley has a "harmonic balancer" that is slipping, not turning the alternator fast enough to charge until the rubber gets hot. You would think it would squeal but they almost never do.

Dougo, 1086 alternator. Thats a delco gm alternator and thats what they do. After it warms up a minute you have to rev the engine enough to get excitation in it. Then it will charge even at idle
@justinboerner27812 ай бұрын
Sometimes with an 86 and 66 series internationals you need to rev them to 3/4 ish throttle to get the alternators to charge just watch your amp gauge and it should jump hopefully that helps duggo
@firefly938020012 ай бұрын
Make sure to use a usb c fast charger to charge those Noco boost x jump starters also. You will know if it’s fast charging because it will have the little lightning bolt lit up on it. Thus taking less time to charge back up for the next guy.

Hi Doug, we have a dairy with about 80 employees. By far my biggest beef is getting smart, educated people to clean up after themselves, put things back for the next guy, no trash left in machines and keep your work trucks clean. I was curious on 1086 alternator. If it got modified to a one wire system, the alternator won’t excite and start charging until you wind the engine up most of the way until you see voltmeter needle pop up. You appear to be a gentle operator and in a short session you might never rev the engine that much is my thought….. Thanks for your thoughts and humor. John
