Those John Deere hoods go into service mode, all you have to do is take the bolts out of the back hinge and unplug the lights then it will tilt up and sit on the front weights.

I have a 1968 480-BD just like yours. The cylinder is the easy part of that mast. 25 years ago we replaced the wear plates in the mast. The only way to do that is to cut the mast apart, and the wear plates have to be stick welded with a special rod. We have 17 forklifts, and that old JD gets used every week.

Usually you just take the cap off the top of the cylinder and pull the guts out to put a new seal kit in a forklift cylinder and leave the barrel on the forklift 🤷‍♂️

How long till the next crop and next planting? And see if the 3phase is close enough to the shop to add a meter for it- the converter is always a problem for long term power usage. True 3 phase will never rotate the motors backwards, the converter can screw up. And with people underneath the crane that can be a deadly situation. 5:33 ⚰️
