Our geri dog has near-instantly stopped the _cough-cough-aaaack_ he's suffered many times a day for over a year with just a small amount of licorice, cbd and honey in his food and water. It's astonishing. Never expected such a quick and thorough remedy for something we thought could not be helped. He's a big dog at 80 pounds (not overweight) and thought I would introduce slowly, so even at ¼ of the recommended doses, he's practically back to baseline. Can't thank you enough, Dr. Jones, for making our beloved family member so much more comfortable at 85 in the new human years calculation.

What food do you give your dog whilst treating his condition? So you did not take all the stuff just honey, CBD, and licorice? I'm so relieved i may not have to fork out 3 grand for an op.

Thanks for all the background and healing information Doc. My 13 yr old Wyley 65lb male lab/hound mix has had laryngeal paralysis for about two years. Turmeric curcumin and green leaf tea extract has significantly reduced inflammation and improved his breathing amazingly. I also give him licorice root tincture and cbd drops.

I'm watching this past midnight and, despite the late hour, I'm so glad to have found you and your very sound advice. My 13 year old retriever is showing all signs of laryngeal paralysis but the vet has only offered me the option of surgery. I would possibly consider this on a younger dog but not my old man. I was encouraged by your alternative solutions. I wish you were my vet. Thank you for taking the time to explain so carefully.

@@VeterinarySecrets You said in the video that, if your dog suffered from laryngeal paralysis, you'd avoid tie-back surgery. Could you explain why? This video was so informative. I took our sweet lab to the vet yesterday for something unrelated and she told me our dog had this. This whole year, I thought he had arthritis in his hips and this is spot on what he has. I’ve never even heard of this! I basically bought every supplement you mentioned and started him on this today. I also am asking vet tomorrow for rx for doxepin.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say they wouldn't or might not do the tie back surgery.Wy not? I thought it was super safe and effective? They recover in like 2 days and are going up stairs and exercising, back to their old self....I've read this dozens of times from happy pet owners. Yet to hear (on facebook group) from a single dog owner who regrets tie back.

Thank you for this video! I am so glad to see some natural remedies! I recently brought my 11 year old lab mix (don't know mixed with what else - we got her from the pound but probably Pit and possibly Dalmatian) to our vet for her biannual exam. One of the things we asked to get checked out was she occasionally makes a gagging/choking sound, especially when drinking water from the bowl. It doesn't happen every time or all the time - not even every day. The vet shared a few possible diagnoses: one was infection (because she had some mucus in her throat) so she was prescribed doxycycline and the other was laryngeal paralysis. He did not put her under to look at her larynx, just did a quick exam (which I am okay with for now). He recommended monitoring it to see if it worsens and like you said, getting rid of collars. I wonder if maybe it is allergies? Also, what I REALLY want to know is if you think chiropractic might be helpful? In your video, you said it was nerve damage and chiropractors work on the nervous system. I am a chiropractor and I asked a couple of my chiro friends who adjusts animal (I don't), and they said they don't do manual manipulation on the animals. Instead, they use instruments to adjust. I don't see a down side - I just wanted to know if you think, in general, if it might be helpful? I understand you cannot comment on my dog as you haven't examined her. Thanks again!

My yellow lab was about 11.5 when he had an episode related to this. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. He could not breathe and at that time I had no clue what was happening, had never heard of laryngeal paralysis. I rushed him to the vet and they did nothing but tell me to keep him calm. At that time it was challenging because it was hard to stay calm myself. The vet then mentioned LP to me and I got very indignant (as odd as that sounds but in hindsight Im grateful I was) not at the vet or at Max, just at the possibility of Max or any other dog suffocating to death. Shortly after this episode, I noticed his back end was weak and at one point he couldnt stand up without assistance. For that I gave him CBD Oil daily and it had him up and not only walking but running and going to the dog park daily, up until a few days before he passed The indignance I felt that day in the vet's office never left me and I used it for the next week or so when Max's breathing started to be laboured. That feeling, rather than fear allowed me to stay calm myself and calm him, but also mentally, for my own sake I imagined him breathing perfectly as I was physically cooling him down and petting him telling him all is well. I learned on more than a few occasions that dogs are mind readers and my reaction/response was important in any experience. This went on for about a week, I refused to mentally accept the possibility of LP having any effect on him, and then I started noticing his breathing was as I imagined and he never had another episode for the rest of his life, he was 14 when he passed.

@@kara5958 I was giving him "CBD Honey Tears". I gave it to him daily, a dab of it the size of a grain of rice, he licked it off my finger. It is for humans, but with the carrier being honey, it was safe for him to have. The exact brand I was using, no longer exists as far as I know, the company (Green Island Naturals)was sold with the change in the legal status in Canada. I believe there is another company selling similar tears, I didn't use it, but suspect it would work the same, I think its called "Marys CBD Honey Tears"

Thank You for the explanation! I took my 11 year old lab in for his labored breathing. We used to be able to walk a mile every day, now he only can make it a few houses down before getting exhausted. After a chest x-ray the Vet just said "maybe it's neurological, I don't see anything we should do at this time". But it left me perplexed without any detailed explaining. My dog is kinda suffering and I'm supposed to just shrug it off? I look forward to trying out some of your suggestions. Thanks again for the clarity.

Our 14 year old retriever was diagnosed with this a few weeks ago. We started the doxepin. I thought, overall, that he was getting better but we just had another "episode" tonight. He is a heavy breather at baseline, but during the episodes, he ends up in severe respiratory distress, and cannot get air in. I'm going to try some of the remedies in this video. My man is 14 but he's still such a puppy. I want him to live as much life, a comfortably as possible. But I think we may be looking towards the end sooner than later.

All part of the same disease (GOLPP). The laryngeal folds have become paralyzed…restricting air flow, but at the same time not closing enough to keep some water and food out of the dog’s airway. Thus the coughing gagging etc after eating/drinking. My poor boy (12 year old Lab) has been dealing with this for four years now. He also has developed hind end weakness due to his leg muscles atrophying. This disease is cruel because he’s otherwise a happy healthy dog.

She is 10 .5 years old and we live in AU where vets are not easily recommending CBD oil. She has good days and bad days of wobbly. What can I give that won't interact with meds or liver? Sounds sure but she is super happy and lively girl.

I must get my dog Louis on video to send to you but I'm too busy helping him when it happens to even think of that as it's so sudden and distressful for him. He's a Yorky King Charles Cavalier cross and my son in law said it sounds like what one of his Mum and dad's dogs had. It was esophageal collapse and the young dog died in surgery so I've stayed away from the vets about it because I'm frightened for his life. It just comes on all of a sudden. One minute he can be just laying down or playing and it starts out of the blue. It's a course donkey type of noise as he's trying to get his breath. I gently rub his throat and calmly say it's all right, your ok, mummy is here and after a while he breathes normally. Sometimes though, it's much worse and he drops and almost faints. He's just turned 11 and it's been happening since he was a couple of years old and has become more frequent lately. He will not accept any medication at all. Won't let me open his mouth to put anything in. He's even iffy with your big tub of wonderful supplements. If I don't manage to hide it properly he sniffs it out and won't touch it! I feed him only organic meat and chicken with organic rice but have to cook it as he won't eat raw. I stopped using commercial dog food after my little girl Yorky died in my arms choking from vomiting after two weeks in hospital for kidney failure and gastroenteritis. They both had Iams but after learning it could cause kidney failure I stopped it. His coat is shiny and he's otherwise healthy apart from clicky back knees and hips. He's such a handsome big eyed beautiful teeny little boy and my only companion and I love him dearly. Does it sound like his esophagus is collapsing Dr Jones? Much love from England.❤️ P.S. Louis was a rescue dog from a puppy farm. I got him from a dog rescue centre when he was three months old. So, tiny and scared and sat shaking in the corner. He wouldn't eat or drink for two days bless him. Now he's still scared of children for some reason and very picky about people.

Hi, thank you for your very informative video. We haven’t had a full diagnosis from our vet just a suggestion that it could be this condition. He is a Cocker Spaniel, can it be found in this breed too? Also, please could I ask what strength CBD oil you are using as there are so many different ones on the market? Many Thanks

Is there a reason you would consider against the surgery? Just curious as I think my 8.5 year old dog may have this issue.

No MEDS OR DIAGNOSTICD DONE! watching this video there are many things to help the inflamation and distressed beathing cough. I removed collar to a harness but no full back harness since he is a Male. IS THERE A HARNESS TO LIFT BACK END UP???

I just found you when researching ILD with coughing/gagging/hacking up. Heart problem ruled out. Our 13 y/o Havanese S/Fe needs Flovent twice daily. It's breaking our budget. No generic. Do you have alternatives for Flovent and ILD treatments (support)? Thank you for your video outreach.

My dog has been diagnosed with this after almost 2 years, many vets and thousands of dollars. Now the only practice (3 locations to monopolize and price gouge) in my area wants more that twice then national average price. I was wondering if anyone has tried BVEAP surgery from a doctor in Malvern, Pa?

What about cats? First of all he was dumped. So he's been to my vet which is a regular veterinarian he's actually extremely experienced he was every kind of test we could do including an extensive blood test to rule out talk so long worms asthma x-ray ultrasound he did a scope but his scope isn't like when I'm having done on Tuesday which is a CAT scan and extensive scope. I'm going to have to ask the vet when I drop him off for the scope to maybe check to see if that's the issue. But he has exercise intolerance and we were giving him prednisolone 5 mg twice a day along with lactoferrin and I lysine. When he's eating he'll stop doing it when he's sleeping he doesn't do it and sometimes when he's got himself all wound up I can pick him up and like massage where his windpipe is on his neck a little bit like gently like rub around there and I'll get him to stop. My Stafford terrier was diagnosed on 3/20/23 with this more like golpp. More of the weakness. Has arthritis and it’s affecting his nerves. I was Prescribed gabapentin. Seems to have gotten worse. His breathing is fine. But His paralysis is partial on one side and full on the other side. Any more suggestions. I strayed on a 100mg am pm. And went to 300 in pm. Drinking more and peeing more and some accidents now. What would be best for him. Cbd oil the green tea extract. Acupuncture. ?? Can I get a copy of your book. Tyvm for this video.

Thanks doc that was very informative. I have. A? Question. About? CBD if it has any THC in it. My dog is a mixed German shepherd. He's not fat at all,but he weighs a 160 pounds. Our vet doctor Kennedy just told me he believed my big dog, Bubba, may have it. Because when he gets excited he sounds hoarse and pants. I gave him some human c b d, t h c gummies what do you think. Let's him sleep calmly. He's had a very rough life. I fostered him for a minute before I adopted him. He was run over at an early age and has a bad leg strange gate always. When he came to me he was two years old he hasn't gotten any taller but he weighs seventy pounds so you can imagine how skinny he was. I don't want him to have pain. That's why I started him on the gummies but the vet today said he thinks t h c is bad For my big dog what do you think I'd like a second opinion. Thanks so much, Rose & Bubba

Hi my 8 yr old greyhound was diagnosed with this although we treated with steroids and antibiotics because it was very swollen. His breathing everything improved right away I did not rush to the surgery because for one $$. Second the long term. My question is he has this huge increase in fear or sounds but wants to go outside and bark at storm. This is a huge change as he used to sleep through storms any thoughts on learned change and noise.

Hello I hope you see this I have an important question. My dog is a 3 1/2pnd long hair chihuahua with Alopecia from gray skin they say. Most important here is he has LARYNGEAL PA.RALYSIS I had the tie back surgery done for him he wouldn't be able to get air in and had to at one point get oxygen for him and not leave my house because I didn't know when it would happen , it took months before the vet figured out what it was. I went to a specialists and found out the problem and had the surgery that day. question is how can I feed him home cooked meals, what to cook for him and how do you get what he needs in it? I feed him soft food by wellness right now and every bite is a little meatball while holding him upright because I have not yet got the bailey chair. I then have to hold him like this after he eats until he burps, like a baby!!..lol!! If I don't do this he will later start hacking and most of the time food or something comes up and doesn't I guess, make it all the way back down and he ends up with pneumonia. He has had this about 5 times now and it is just over a year since the surgery. I am having trouble with what to feed him. He is on Sildenefil, cisapride, and omprazole. Do you or could you give me any suggestions on what I can make for him and what to add so that he gets everything he needs? He is mock 90 all the time like nothing is wrong with him even though obviously there is and he has back leg issues he has had his whole life paws roll under and legs go out to side when walking or running not like a normal dog but he doesn't care he thinks he is fine ..lol!! he will at times when setting him down turn his head and lick or bite at back like it hit a nerve or something. So he has some issues and I would at least like him to have a good diet and not a crappy one so he can be with us as long as possible with all his problems. If you have any advice or if anyone does it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!!

I think my little Maltipoo has this and want to help him. He used to cough generally in the mornings after first getting up. Here lately it's frequently and he has a very raspy or noisy breathing, especially when he gets excited. Walks very slow too. A couple years ago he was also diagnosed with KCS and is in Optiimmune eye meds. I think I'll try these that U mentioned. Does it have to be specifically a doggy brand CBD or can ya use just any human brand at a certain dose? I'm unfamiliar with CBD products.
