Guys you really have to visit bahia de las aguilas in the south
@FelipeFermin2 жыл бұрын
Apart from Bahia de las Aguilas, which you should definitely mark as one of your next destinations, there’s also a few others spots that might actually top Las Terrenas (which is pretty hard, IMO): 1) Miches (which is poised to explode as the new main tourism destination, considering the investments that are being made from mega corporations). Over there, look for playa Esmeralda, playa Costa Esmeralda, and playa El Limón. 2) Playa La Ensenada and Punta Rucia which are located west from Cabarete / Puerto Plata. From Punta Rucia you can take a quick boat to Cayo Arena, which is a sand bank that makes you wish you didn’t forget your snorkeling gear. 3) And going far more northwest, you can find Playa Buen Hombre (best kept secret of kitesurfers) and even farther you’ll find Montecristi, specifically Playa Juan de Bolaños. You should make those 4 your next destinations. Also, while in Las Terrenas, check for the hidden gems that you can find in Las Galeras, such as Playa Madama.

Las Terrenas becomes extremely crowded starting “Holy Wednesday” (starting April 13th this year). Usually lots and lots of people from Santo Domingo prefer spending the Easter Vacation over there. Just letting you guys know, so you don’t get scared seeing so much people when it is usually not crowded at all in Las Terrenas. That is why when I go over with my family, We try to avoid those days and just spend a few days BEFORE Wednesday / Thursday. If I see you next week, I’ll definitely say hello. Love your content, by the way.

This video was so well done, and very informative. I can see that choosing where to stay would not be an easy one for us. The beaches in Las Terrenas really are gorgeous. I love being able to swim in the ocean, and would be out there forever. Also love the European vibe. BUT, I also love how Cabarete is so walkable. We also enjoy getting to know locals, and seems like that would be more likely in Cabarete. Dining with our feet in the sand - BONUS! You've given us a lot to think about should we ever make it to the DR. I'm thinking a couple weeks in each would be the best way to go! Thanks for a great watch! - Coreen

Great video. My wife and I spent last Spring/Summer in Cabarete and visited Las Terrenas for 2 weeks. We are in Cab. again for this Spring/Summer. I can say this video is very accurate. If we were not big kiters, I'd give the edge to Las Terrenas. Much prettier beaches and great vibe, but you can't beat the wind in Cabarete! It truly is a great country. If you go, don't be afraid to get out of town and see the mountains, get to know the people and help keep the beaches clean by picking up trash when you can, especially your own :)

Cabarete wins for me. My 3 "W"s are: Warm, Walkable, and Water. I stayed in Sosúa for a month and a half a few years back and it was a great experience. I stayed in Casa Linda. My only issue was that right outside of Casa Linda, it wasn't very walkable. It would've been nice to have some sidewalks in the community and on the outside that connects to the beach. This may be in the works, but right now it appears that Cabarete is more developed in this area. Great overview! Thank you.

Question: we were there for a month last year (Cabarete), and five weeks this year (Las Terrenas). We had 5-7 people with us at any time, and apart from me, every single person had stomach issues at some point in their trip… Some just had the runs, and others had vomiting too, and my sister even had a bit of a fever for 24 hours or so (I think hers was food poisoning). We were super careful about what we ate… we never drank or brushed with tap water, and we stayed away from uncooked veg at restaurants. Don’t get me wrong… we’ve already booked five weeks again next year (we love it there!). But I’m curious how it’s been for you? (I notice that you guys even eat the restaurant salads at times!).

Good question but are these issues unusual for you guys when you travel in general? Just curious

@@rosiegirl7112 - never had issues anywhere else (my sister has in India), and we all travel a lot. Also, we had 11 different people visiting in total over the 5 week period this year, and every person except me got sick.

@@kristapedersen1828 So obviously it was something there, hopefully next year it will be better

@@rosiegirl7112 - it is a DR thing for sure, and I don’t think it will change, personally. But I used hand sanitizer a fair bit this year, which may have helped me…

EGGs... that's the one thing here that at first didn't sit well with us. They aren't refrigerated basically. In North America they wash the outside of the eggs and then refrigerate them 👍 - Trevor

Have you been to Las Galeras? Our fave landfall in the DR. Hard to get to. Not much going on. Just the way we like it.

Another awesome video guys! Thanks! You hit all the important things but I definitely agree that everything just comes down to personal preference. My advice to anyone asking this question is Visit both! At the very least, one week in each spot but more is always better! You are bound to fall in love with one of them because I know I did! And it’s thanks to these guys here 👆🏼 And always watch out for bum splinters!! Lol

Such good advice Matty! Visiting both places for at least 1 week would be so helpful 😀 You still in the DR btw? - Trevor

Unfortunately no! Had to get back to the grind in Ohio! I’m already ready to come back. I’ll just have to live vicariously through your videos for a little bit until my condo is done in LT lol

What about services like medical and veterinary for those of us with pets?
@DelightfulTravellers2 жыл бұрын
We don't have pets. Hopefully someone else can answer your question - Trevor

Not quite sure about Las Terrenas but there are plenty of vets in the north coast and all major cities in the DR. Service is quite inexpensive as well when you compare to the US.

You definitely nailed this video. I have to say I only disagreed with you on 3 categories. The restaurant’s in Cabarete or much more diverse, better food and much cheaper. Here in Las Terrenas the Restaurants are basically all the same Pizza ,Pastas and Fish. Caberate has every type of Restaurant and the food is much better and cheaper. The other category’s I disagreed with is the vibe and activities People are much more friendly in Cabarete and downtown has much more entertainment. Cabarete has surfing,kiting ,a sailing club Paddle Boarding club.Swimming at kite beach and downtown. You can comfortably walk for miles on a flat beach. You can go tubing on the river and 15 minutes away in Sosua there is a Monkey Jungle ,scuba diving and many more Restaurants. You can also experience the Blue moon Restaurant and Wilson’s Cabarete also has a great Gym,Pool hall and Sports bar. I lived in Cabarete for 3 years. I absolutely loved it. I have been living in Las Terrenas for a year now and the only thing I find better are the beaches.🤷♀️

Glad you liked the video but we said the restaurants are more diverse and people are more friendly in cabarete. Maybe you missed that? 😀

@@DelightfulTravellers I was sure you had the Restaurant category tied and the vibe and activities better in Las Terrenas. Maybe I missed that! Great video!

I agree with you. However, the beaches are not just better, they are night and day. And once you start venturing out beyond the boundaries of las Terrenas and explore the rest of Samana, it's a whole different ball game. The peninsula of Samana (and its neighboring small islands) have so many paradisaic beaches that It would take you at least a few months to explore all of them . Every time you find a new one you say to yourself that that is it, this has to be the best one. Yet, after turning around the corner (either via driving, hiking, or boating) the next one presents itself and it is just as, or more, beautiful than the previous one. So I'd say that if your priority is having access to beautiful and exotic beaches, Las Terrenas is going to be hard to beat for most of the world.
