As a Southern California F1 fan since I attended my first race as a teenager in 1978, I was very excited for Las Vegas last year. But when I saw the ticket pricing and limited access for fans, I went to Montreal instead (and it cost less even with airfare!). Vegas did seem like a cash grab and a place to be “seen.” Lower ticket and hotel prices this year are a step in the fans’ direction, and adding a support race will bring more action. I really WANT to love the Vegas Grand Prix, and if these trends continue, I hope to make the 5 hour drive to see it myself in a few years.

That was a nifty overview of the inaugural race, Kym. I think that race had its share of 1st time issues, but the race itself was very engaging and the desert night Temps really mess with the car setups. Makes it fascinating to watch unfold! If the organizers get on top of the logistics, and price enough decent seats affordably, the event will earn fan approval. They need to recognize the economic reality and let greed take a back seat to let this thing grow. Of course, the words Las Vegas and reality are rather incongruous...we`ll see.

Hi Kym, first off big fan. I work for the City of Austin. I remember when COTA was built and F1 race was coming near so the city over prepared for the mass amount of international and local travelers, coming into Austin. We anticipated lots of call volume for our 311 ( local information center and police non emergency ) center but I remember It being a dead weekend. The fans that came to the City didn't really experience Austin. They came, went to their hotels, went to free practices, race day, then left. I remember the Hotels saw a huge surge in profits but almost everywhere else it was extremely dead and hardly any business, millions of sales tax lost during that weekend. Our locals said they didn't go out because they expected to be overly busy everywhere. The South Congress area dead, downtown hotels were packed but no where else like the North side was( Domain ) dead, too. We were shocked and surprised by this. One, we didn't realize how coordinated these fans are and how organized Formula 1 is to help with their fans with needs. It was like this for about 3-4 years ( races ), and then all of sudden everyone started to see fiscal benefits of f1 in the City. The restaurants in all of Austin saw a surge, the local hip places around Congress Ave started seeing the street submerged with f1 jerseys, etc. The Fans were buying Texas jerseys, visiting the local places etc. So I think this will be similar in Vegas. The hotels, casinos, and f1 saw surge in profit as a whole but the people in the nearby areas and off strip didn't. I have a feeling as more races go thru Vegas it will be same as it was in Austin. It seems like it just takes time for the F1 Fans to make it outside of their intermediate areas to start to exploring more of Vegas than what meets the eye.

Good afternoon Kym. I am a huge F1 fan, I love the racing, the cars and so on. Last years LAS race was one of the best of the season and I'm hoping this years race is even better considering the level of competition. During the setup, race and take down, folks working in hotels and other businesses within the race circuit must leave home up to 1.5 hours earlier than normal. Americans are spoiled, they don't like delays and things that invade their private time, hence the hate of this event. Some businesses made a ton of money while others lost a ton of money. As for tourists. There is enough online information prior to this event people should be aware of what to expect, however they'll complain regardless. I guess it's easier to complain and find fault in things vs. complementing folks or events like this. Kym, safe travels and keep up the great work, love your posts!

Not to pile on, but the other gripe about the Las Vegas GP is the ticket map on the official website, which is baffling. Yes, the race is at night, but the seating map does not need to be dark with vague representations and amorphis design elements. Let's make it brighter and clearer, like what Kym said about the main paddock area.

They may be having trouble selling the tickets this year. We had the cheapest seats and they got upgraded to grandstands a month ago.

Last year a friend was in Vegas a week before the race and all he did was complain about traffic the shut downs the detours but had no idea f1 was the reason why

I’ll be keen to hear what locals/small businesses say this year and see if F1 learned anything or cares. You know a first race will have hiccups but they could have anticipated many of the issues last year (and been far less greedy).

It's ironic people are complaining about the Vegas race on a channel ran by a social influencer (no offense Kym). The Vegas event attracted unprecedented numbers of A-liters, celebrities and influencers. Not to mention the large numbers of high rollers, business leaders and potential corporate sponsors. F1 knew exactly what they were doing when they committed $500 million to buying land and building a paddock facility. The Vegas GP is here to stay,

The fact of the matter is that when it came to the race itself last year, Vegas was one of the best in a pretty boring season. 90+ overtakes; take that Monaco. That dive into the corner at the end by LeClerc was just epic. Last year I had to watch it on my phone in a hotel room; looking forward this time to watching it at home on the big screen. It was a good race, no matter what you and the rest of the U.S. haters think.

I agree - it was a good track and the race was a good one. I don't even mind Carlos's accident with the watermain cover, which could have been expected on a new street circuit. It's all the window dressing and other stuff that Lost Wages put on that was stupid and unnecessary.

Hi Kym, just asking about the color profile you use on your files if you don't mind as I am a Photographer also. Do you use the native colors from Canon Raws or use Adobe Colors once you edit them? thanks

The racing itself is amazing, the venue/ location is awesome for viewing on the big screen

The racing itself is actually awesome at the track, it is designed perfectly for overtaking even as a street race. The issue is with the logistics. I hope they solve the problems.

Dude, growing pains... was in Vegas a month ago and folks were buying team gear like it wasn't $70 a hat ans $120 a shirt. Seriously, it was everywhere and folks are eating it up.

I watched on F1 tv and in my opinion was just an amazing race . I’ve driven on a simulator in Las Vegas and I really liked the layout , can’t wait for this year’s race

7k USD for a few nights in a hotel is crazy. The average yearly salary in my home country is 12k euros. My friend got a five-day, all-inclusive vacation in a 5-star hotel in Sicily for a few hundred euros.

Yes, but if they stick an F1 race in there that rate won’t stay the same

I have to admit I really wish there was no race in LV. Glad it is not a Sprint Weekend at least.

Last year, the race was great. This year, things will improve in some of the other areas. It will be refined. I only hope the circuit is really ready.

Watching on TV? I liked it bar the silliness you mention they stopped. Wouldn't go in person though if picking from the globe. I'd choose Texas over Vegas if going state side

As someone who attended last year, I thought it was fantastic (although FP1 was a shambles).

Why not have a handful of different covers for your upcoming book? Customers can choose the cover of their choice. I've seen this with Star Style from interior designer Martin Lawrence Bullard. (no relation to actor Martin Lawrence.) I debated attending the race next week but decided against it even though the Hamilton tickets were almost half price. If you have the time, try to film a video from the Elvis Presley suite.

the race itself was awesome but the glitz and glam with hours of intro musical performances was ridiculous. i watch from lights out to post race interviews and that's it.

As a babyboomer I wonder when did the term "haters" come into fashion? Less or more than five years? I sure don't remember anybody talking about "haters" when Keke Rosberg won the World championship at Caesars Palace parking place.

I live 3 hours away and am a huge race fan. But for the site lines and the crowds and the cost. I would much rather spend my race dollar on traveling to Road America for a great Indy Car race that is on the best track in the US. Please F1! Go to Road America!

I LOVE this race after only watching one. I saw what this race can be vs what it was. I see them moving it more forward in the calendar because November in Vegas is too sketchy. ALL fans no matter where want to be comfortable, cold and wet does not meet that criteria. Maybe run it in the day, but that'll never happen.......nothing good EVER happens in Vegas in the day.

I thought the actual race itself in 2023 was excellent. Lots of passing at the end of the long straight down the Las Vegas Blvd. I did not attend last year (or this year), but will try and make it in 2025.

The Las Vegas race was the most memorable race of the year for me. Highly entertaining and I’m looking forward to the next one.
