I would love to get my hands on something like this that I can attach to the end of a diode or a standard host. I like to do a lot of sidewalk astronomy in the city, and having a powerful 30mw laser is necessary to cut through the light pollution and point out stars, but obviously having such a powerful laser around unprotected and dilated eyes makes me nervous. So I was wondering if this beam expander could help mitigate it by spreading out a damaging 30mw output over a much wider area, while still being useful as a way to point out stars.

Hey guys - what difference does divergence make to the width of the laser after it is expanded through a simple lens or mirror? If the divergence is 2 mRad for one laser and 4 mRad for another, will their spot size after expansion differ?
