The ipad is clear anodized with a clearcoat secondary process. The extra chemical layer of the second clearcoat is burning and not etching the metal.

Couldn't you find a more expensive testing media? I'm sure it is out there! :)

Etch aluminium with NaOH, better control of the etch as it is not as aggressive. If you mask the aluminium panel like a PCB you can do a panel nicely. The porous areas will accept dye nicely, or if you use a predyed panel it will strip the dye out selectively. I have done this with worn dyed alloy parts to get an even finish back, though I left it as plain afterwards. If you use a stainless steel container it will electrochemically strip the parts as well.

hello :) Hope you are good. If you dont mind can you please share what % power and speed you are using to engrave on anodized aluminium. JL-K3020 is 40w? thanks for sharing the helpful vidoes.

What speed and power settings did you use to get best results?

You probably could add colour to the etched areas now by using a dye to the etched area as the alloy is porous now and will accept dye until it oxidises again. Try using a sharpie to try and wipe off with IPA afterwards, the burn should hold dye better.

The iPad is indeed anodised. I think you have these problems because the surface you are engraving, isn't flat.
@EcProjects10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, that could be. And it's not exactly in the focus point of the beam either :/

EcProjects My bet would be that too. Any way to lower the iPad or raise the laser?

I have engraved every iPad I own with a universal laser systems 50 watt at 25% power 100% speed at 600'ppi and it always looks lovely I did my Mac as well but it may be to the $23000 price gap

Det er sikkert allerede gået op for dig men bagsiden af iPad'en har jo en runding, så det er sikkert derfor du oplever at den ikke efterlader så godt et resultat. Laseren er simpelthen ikke fokuseret.
