@johndoherty-hh2ck10 ай бұрын
I see a lot of comments about Lasha’s belly and weight. When he came back from his suspension in 2015 he did 207-247 at Houston worlds bwt 155 kg. Now he is around 180 and has done unreal 225-267 but has had physical problems lately both heart and muscles and joints. What I hope to see him do if his body permits is max out in Paris the elusive 500 total or whatever. I don’t know how much of that additional body weight is responsible for his increase in total but after the Olympics he should lose 25-30kg of weight. Give yourself a break Lasha you don’t have to win 4 Olympic golds you’re already the greatest super. You’ve earned the right to kick back and bask in your achievements.

Those squats...he's doing over 600...doesn't even look like he's trying. I once saw a vid of him doing around 850 (I'm pretty sure it was in the 800's) and he didn't seem to be pressing until the last couple of sets. Everyone talks about the Chinese lifters being quick to get under the bar in the lifts--and they are--but they're much shorter than LT is. He's around six-six and 360 pounds or thereabouts, so for a huge guy like him to get under the bar as fast as he does (and faster than most) is just amazing.

Well, hard work and focus, never giving up, and crazy genetics, and some illegal doping, and great coaching staff, and opportunity. Guy is literally the greatest ever in the history of the sport as far as totals go. Plenty of people work hard and there are probably lots who work even harder than Lasha. Others have probably taken more drugs too but you can't underestimate the genetic component in this sport. Being able to lift weights is going to have a hard genetic cap. If you aren't a winner in that genetic lottery it won't matter how hard you work, how much doping you do, or that you never give up. You will not be the next Lasha. But I think you can safely say if nothing else God definitely blessed this man genetically and man is it a joy to watch him lift.

I'd say 160 minimum for a dead-stop, 'honest to God' strict press, possibly as high as 170kg. Deadlift... he's done clean pulls at 300kg for multiple reps, didn't look hard at all. 360-70kg I'd say, more if he pulled in flat shoes and in a 'powerlifting' style.

I'm going to be the guy to ask the question: Would his performance be better without all the extra belly fat?
@olindblo10 ай бұрын
someone asked this question on the Sika q&a and I think their answer was 'probably not' or that it would be an insignificant improvement considering the risk involved and competing as a super hw anyway.
@arpussupra10 ай бұрын
It's a bit hypothetical because he has built his strength while being in a caloric surplus. He wouldn't be where he is now by maintaining a lighter bodyweight. His performance and the belly are two sides of the same coin. We can argue about whether his calorie intake was higher than necessary but that's something we will never know. The big belly certainly helps with squatting and bouncing out of the hole. On the other hand he has to pull around his belly a little bit in the snatch. Take his belly away right now and I think he could be a bit better in the snatch but worse in the clean and jerk. In the end, it's the superheavyweight where bodyweight doesn't matter. He's lifted the biggest weights the sport has ever seen. Based on that alone it's difficult to make a case that he would be better off by not pushing his bodyweight as much.
@johndoherty-hh2ck10 ай бұрын
You make a good point about pulling around the belly. When I was a kid lifter in the 70’s there was a great super from Belgium! First guy to snatch 400 lbs 1973-182.5 kg who used to chalk his belly and pull the bar through his body. Not knowing much about bar trajectory I used to wonder why he didn’t swing it more but it worked for him. He was about 170 cm tall,130 kg bwt. Gave Alexeev a couple good fights but was always on the short end of the stick.
@patricklang716210 ай бұрын
Well that was the same point I thought about with bar path, but now he’s gotten used to the bar path he uses now. Lose the belly does the bar path change? I guess eventually, but would the loss in Bw also be a huge loss strength, probably.
@germanwolf921210 ай бұрын
@@johndoherty-hh2ck Serge Reding, right? He should have gotten the press record instead of Alexeev but it is what it is.
