I had Lasius Fuliginosus before but they were infertile 😭Also, the yellow ants you have are Lasius Umbratus as they don't accept Flavus workers. They do accept Niger workers tho

Hoi EA, Ik heb dit jaar drie Lasius fuliginosus koninginnen gevangen (en een stuk of twintig kunnen vangen). Aangezien je ze in de tuin hebt kun je op een warme avond (liefst als het een beetje geregend heeft in de middag ervoor) meerdere koninginnen vangen. Dit kun je mijn inziens het beste na een uur of zeven doen. Mijn bevindingen zijn tot nu toe heel wisselend met ze. 1 koningin is helaas twee dagen na haar vangst overleden, ze is langs het watje ontsnapt (1,5 cm dik! uit de test tube) en is bij een lasius niger koningin in de test tube gekomen. Dit had ze niet overleefd. 1 heb ik vrijwel meteen vrijgelaten omdat ik een gelukte queen adoption had. De 3e heb ik gekoppeld aan 15 Lasius fuliginosus werksters, ik wist van welke kolonie zij gevlogen was dus van die kolonie heb ik werksters gevangen en er aan toegevoegd. Deze heb ik nu sinds twee maanden in een test tube in box zitten. Ook heb ik besloten in deze setup L Niger poppen te gooien om de werksters bezig te houden. Deze setup lijkt te werken tot nu toe, al heb ik geen L.Niger slaven nog gezien. Mijzelf valt het soort persoonlijk wel tegen. Deze mieren laten geursporen achter die dagen achter kunnen blijven waardoor deze doelloos rondjes gaan lopen in de setup. Ook zijn ze vele male schichtiger als de overige lasius soorten (minus flavus). Ik zou als je deze soort besluit te houden zeker meer koninginnen vangen als je van parasitisme uitgaat. Ik denk dat je tot ruim in juli nog koninginnen in je tuin kan vangen! Succes ermee.

@@EstheticAnts Ben er vergeten bij te vermelden dat ze absoluut niet van grote openingen houden. In het geval je voor een test tube in box setup kiest dan is het wel handig om dit zelf te doen. De mieren zullen dit zelf niet doen met substraat (zowel niet met zand als ander natuurlijk substraat als blaadjes of takjes). PS: Als je in jou omgeving F. Sanguinea nesten hebt zitten dan kun je in de komende ochtenden tot voormiddagen kijken of je een gyne kunt vangen. Ze vliegen hier in zuidoost brabant nu massaal uit. Eergister kwam ik er acht in een uur tegen en vandaag nog twee.

My dream species , Colobopsis Explodens, Cephalotes ,Odontomachus Similimus ,Oecophylla Smardigna , Atta Mexicana , Dinomyrmex Gigas and Carebara Diversa. Esthetic Ants , which one here you gonna try to keep? Odontomachus Similimus will be the easiest here and the biggest is Dinomyrmex Gigas size 3cm or more.

Hi how is your Lasius doing now? So 3-5 months ago i started a vivarium in a 40 gallon tank and populated it only from stuff in the woods. Before winter i put a mossy log in the tank hoping it would be full of insects and eggs trying to ride out the winter. Well i was right and have a wide variety of different insects living in the tank now. At first i only saw no more than 2 Lasius fuliginosus workers at any given time, usually feeding on apple. I wasn't sure if i had actually been lucky enough to capture an ant queen. Well here we are now and i will see 10-15 workers at the same time! Pretty convinced i actually have an ant queen at this point. I was wondering if you could give any advice on caring for this species in my particular setup? What do you recommend for keeping the ants from crawling up out of the tank? I tried applying Vaseline to the top rim of the tank but it didn't work
