I've been driving trucks 41 years 27 years in the Union 14 years over the road and local when I get over the road I had a bigger fire extinguish I also had a smoke alarm in the truck and carbon dioxide detector every time I went to sleep I left the truck running but I would leave the vents open on the back by the sleeper or leave the window cracked in every truck I drove over the road I always make sure I had a back door in the sleeper where I can get out in case of a fire but like I said I invested in a smoke alarm and carbon dioxide detector

Dying breeds have been a common thing over the years. Way back in the 50s it was work to drive a truck. They all had big steering wheels because they had to be. Twin screws were not all that common. Cabovers were in vogue in the 60s and 70s. Dad's last truck was a rough riding Emeryville but most of his early driving was done in Farmall's, 180s and 190s. His back ended his driving career. They never made a Bostrom seat that could tame those bucking broncs. Not many sliding tandems back then and the standard trailers usually had them mounted all the way to the rear especially with twin screws pulling them. The cabovers disappeared and the ant eaters came along. Then the fairings, power steering, auto trans and air ride suspensions. The truckers back then were a different breed for sure. Imagine no interstates, fifty MPH was "making good time", shifting at every little hill and muscling that stiff steering around the tight city streets that popped up every ten miles. And when it got cold, the drafty cabs and anemic heaters could barely keep the frost off the windshield. Ice scrappers were an accessory kept close at hand and you tried hard to breath down to keep the windshield from frosting over. And for sure no cozy sleepers. If you did have one, you froze to death if you were dumb enough to try on a cold winter night. I would say "First Class" is exactly in the right time frame. Pretty enough to turn heads and modern enough to get the job done comfortably. That makes you and that truck both first class and a dying breed for sure. Which is why we anxiously wait for your next video.

I had a neighbor that was basically like a grandfather to me. Anyway he was always telling me stories from when he was driving back in the day. He mentioned about a GMC truck and a White truck. when he was driving the trucks didn't have sleepers, he said when he got tired he would pull over and sleep on the the floor ,his truck only had a driver's seat. I'm pretty sure he was driving from at least the 1950's but he was probably driving before that.

Don't forget the brownie transmissions. In the mid '90's a ready mix plant I did repair work for had an old yard truck with one. The shop ended up putting the brownie in second gear, then cut the shifter off flush at the floor because the drivers had nothing but trouble trying to drive a truck with two sticks.

I promised that I'd never mention this word again (Webasto) but if you had one of them installed, it would not only keep your sleeper nice & toasty, but some models also keep your engine coolant warm.
