So a $5 Bow Peep dress that's just above the knee, pair that with a sleeveless blouse. sew some lace onto my Nike socks, stick lots of bows onto the holes of my crocs , a randoseru and a flower crown made of flowers from my garden. OK I'm ready!
@princeoftheazuresky6 жыл бұрын
I just got the Miracle Candy skirt in pink for a mere 35 dollars because it has a burst seam that I can easily repair and a small stain I'm pretty sure I can get out and even if I can't, it's not very noticeable. You can get brand items really cheap secondhand if you're willing to spend some time patching them up and willing to wait for them to come around. There is really no excuse for complaining about the price, especially when these items last forever - that skirt is nine years old and is still perfectly serviceable.
@gylentia135 жыл бұрын
I second this. I have one blouse that's 13+ years old. It was black, but it's not so much anymore. I just wear it under things now instead of with skirts. *crosses fingers* I've yet to have a piece fail on me.
@ReptilianTeaDrinker4 жыл бұрын
That's fine, if you can sew, but sucks for those who can't. lol I cannot sew to save my life, but I personally don't mind paying hundreds for a piece, if that's what it takes. Despite that, I envy people who have sewing skills.

6:47 for those in areas where a blouse can be too hot to wear, there’s always shawls, light cardigans, and OPs. There’s many different ways to style Lolita according to your specific weather climate.

as a fairy kei girl I laughed at when you mentioned fairy kei most people would be offended.
@TylerWillis8 жыл бұрын
+Nate' Turner Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed that bit. I like to think that everyone will understand that Fairy Kei isn't a slutty fashion at all, and could only remotely be viewed that way through the lolita fashion lens that says a hemline above your kneecap makes you a tramp. Then again, insinuating that any kind of garment is indicitive of someone's level of sexual activity is just silly to begin with.

A theory I have with the ratio of skin covered in Lolita fashion; The Victorians had a deep-seeded fear of admitting they were mortal hairless apes that farted, sneezed and had bowel movements. When I look at Lolita fashion, something I notice is that all the areas that need to be covered are of the boney variety; Knees, Shoulders, Collar Bones, Wrists and Ankles. I wonder if, way back there sometime, this was tied to the idea of covering areas that have more pronounced anatomy (angled bones, arteries, defined joints) to give a more "perfect", smooth, appearance. I don't think this is something the Lolita community would have thought of themselves, but I wonder if it's a notion accidentally picked up through trying to imitate aspects of Victorian modesty.
@adorabell42537 жыл бұрын
A year later: Victorians weren’t anywhere near as uptight as we think. While they did cover up during the day, in the evening their dress would be a lot more open, including things like short or no sleeves, décolleté, shorter dancing skirts (like not dragging on the floor shorter). Full coverage was just the standard since humans in Europe started wearing clothes.
@ineedmoresleep37286 жыл бұрын
As someone who sews I don’t even think it’s possible to make an full Lolita outfit with just 30 bucks. The dress alone (without blouse and petticoat) yes but the petticoat fabric alone would run about 30 bucks
@Queer_Nerd_For_Human_Justice5 жыл бұрын
What about excluding fabric costs? I get a lot of fabric from friends and reclaimed from old blankets, drapes, etc. What kind of fabric is necessary?

... I actually wear a hoop skirt with my cords... 😅 it’s actually kinda fun walking around in my little hoop skirt and frilly dress! But I would recommend wearing petticoats for winter, they’re way warmer then a hoop skirt. Hoop skirts are very good for the summer months, they give your dress shape and keep your legs cool. But always wear blooms with a hoop skirt! One miss placed bag and your skirt will shoot up showing everything to everyone! 😂😂😂 Especially when getting out of a car... 😓

9:03 Lolita takes a lot from Victorian and rococo era fashion, so keeping in tune with how people dressed back then (1800’s) having your petticoat show isn’t good and kind of sloppy tbh. There’s lots of ways on how to keep our petti hidden and there’s plenty of videos on KZbin about that especially since some Lolita’s have long legs.

6:14 a lot of people seem to be okay with tennis shoes with Lolita but it’s all... contextual? Situational? Like at a photo shoot, fashion show, or meet up, it’s not okay, but if you were in Lolita but had to walk to the convenient store a couple blocks down it’s fine. Like basically, tennis shoes only if it’s necessary. Which it usually isn’t. If you can afford a sizable Lolita wardrobe, you can afford to buy a fucking car, let’s be real.
@marshiethe6th1045 жыл бұрын
Sebastian Sean Crow not everybody can drive. Some people have medical issues that prevent them from driving. Some people just don't feel the need to get a car. Some people are in situations where they can't get a car. Some people live in areas where traffic is terrible so it's just easier to take transit. I know for me, my anxiety has caused me fear so I haven't gotten around to learning how to drive, especially when I live in an area with so much public transit. Even if I did drive, I'd only be able to drive on days my mom doesn't need her car and that's only while I'm living at home with my parents. So instead I take transit everywhere, including lolita meetups.

This was really great! I always find that its hard to describe the rules of the fashion to others! Also i seriously wish brands would make some classier patterns. Like lemons are really cute but do you really need those bears?
@TylerWillis8 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! A lot of lolita does feel like unspoken expectations mixed in within the firm lines, so I'm happy the video gives you something to say to someone when they try to pin down exactly what this frilly cult wants from them. As for the lemon print, do you have a problem with lemon bear relationships? This is 2016, ok? We respect all relationships here lol.

+Ghostly Whisper As emphatic as I am in the video, behind closed doors I agree with you that a decent blouseless coord is possible, and even perhaps preferable in some dresses. However, you tell a new lolita that info and the entire community will be awash in glorified sun dresses.

ScarfingScarves! I need your advice. I cannot afford the original angelic pretty print i want. (Plus i cant find the colour way i so desperately need ANYWHERE, not even closetchild). Should i buy a good replica? Or forever be unable to get my dream dress? Is this lolita blasphemy? please help. Thank you.
@TylerWillis8 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I'm not usually called upon to give advice given my presentation style, but if I were to give you my most honest opinion on the matter I would have to say that when it comes to print replicas I lean heavily in the realm of not supporting the idea. That is not to say that I will lead a mob to your door should you decide to purchase one, but for me the use of someone else's art without proper modification, incorporation into a fair use style work, or permission from the artist to use wholesale isn't fair to the people who spent their time and talent creating it. I would like to reiterate that it is your money and your decision, but replicas aren't something I personally support. The best of luck with your decision, and thank you for watching the show.
@redpetals45438 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your advice. in the end i decided not to get it. You are very eloquent and as an artist myself i completely understand your point of view. I am going to try to find the original. Thank you!

Ok legit question here about the blouse thing; I’ve seen quite a few dresses advertised as not worn with a blouse. A massive majority of these have had floating sleeves that hit where a sleeve of a blouse would hit or are advertised as being a summer frock suitable for a very warm day by the sea. These have all been more recent releases so I’m just curious what other lolitas think on it
