LAST WEEKEND NY RIFLE SEASON 2023 - CAN WE GET ONE MORE??? (Shot Fired!!!)

The last weekend of NY Rifle Season was a grind... We hunt field edges in the evening hoping for some last-minute deer movement in the fields to feed. Colton attempts to fill one final tag for the 2023 Rifle Season. But we find someone at our hunting spot on the Saturday evening sit, making us go to "Plan B" spot. Overall, our 2023 Rifle Season both in NY and Kentucky was a success. Colton learned a lot and filled several tags, including Buck tags in both states. Not bad for his first-year deer hunting!!!

No explanations needed. Tough shot for the kid. My 15 year old son got his first deer this year. Empty's the clip missing 200 yards.... I reload it and tell him to follow me. Im watching the deer as we gain ground. He's getting very angry because he thinks we're gonna scare the deer off. I say, trust me bud keep moving, we gain about 70 yards. Hes down to the last shot and dropped it. He squated down for the shot and ripped his new hunting pants from one ankle up and over to the other 🤣. Then I took a few minutes to explain the deers body language telling me when we are ok and when its time to shoot because it's getting ready to bolt. What an awesome morning. Those pants are hung up with the other memorabilia of hunting over the years.

243- next time aim down on the deer, You talked him in to shooting over the deer. Com’on Dad.- zero 1” high at 100 yards , you will be 4 1/2 “ down at 300.

Ha thanks for the info. We sighted it in at 100 yards.. and he was a bit high like we wanted, but haven’t shot at 200. If it wasn’t the very last day of rifle I proly wouldn’t have allowed him to even shoot. That deer just wasn’t gonna come closer.

Not sure how many .243 you have shot but you are a little off 1 3/4 hight will pretty much put it right on at 200 with 100gr bullet and 8" low at 300. With 100 yard zero would be just shy of 4" low at 200 and just over a foot at 300

Good try Colton 200 Is an poke for 243 If you're good and steady But you definitely need to try the gun at that range first Merry Christmas and good luck with Muzzleloader 😊

Hi Jeff.. trying to make sense of your comment.. would help if u read what u write first, but I think ur trying to comment on the distance? The rounds we shoot do start to drop after 200yrds -6 inches) which is why he was told to aim high. You would need to know several variables including specific round fired/grain size/wind speed/direction also. Last day of the rifle season or wouldn’t have probably taken the shot at all. So we did actually check. Just didn’t show in video since it was dark. We hiked all the way over to the opposite edge and checked the spot she was standing as well as trails leading into the edge. Nothing found, as I figured, but mainly to teach my son. The way she was wandering and browsing she was definitely not hit, unfortunately..

Incorrect... time to review the law and try again...lol. Please know what you are talking about before trying to correct others. A full orange vest is well within the law in NYS.

Yup your correct different areas different rules I hunt mostly on federal land and they do require a vest and hat .I just got into the habit of doing it all the time so my bad there are nitwits out in the woods sadly to say.
