Good comparison video. Funny how we are kind and refer to crap Chinesium tools as “overseas”.

I remember when made in Japan meant junk and nobody knew where Taiwan was. Then Japan became the home of good stuff and Taiwan was junk. Now Taiwan is good and China is junk. By 2027, China will be good and India will be junk. In 2035, India will be good and Russia will be junk. And so on.

@@lastbesttool Couldn't agree more. I use a lot of metal cutting tools. Until recently, mass produced Chinese tooling was fairly poor. In the last couple of years they've introduced tooling that's close to Western manufacturing at relatively low prices. The tooling that I've personally used was indeed very good. Give them another 10 years, and "Chinese junk" may be a forgotten phrase. Some of the machinist tools that I've indicated are square within two tenths. That's no joke.

Like Japan? You think most companies over seas aren’t American but Decided to do business because the labor is cheap in foreign places LOL merica’
@harveysmith1002 жыл бұрын
@@lastbesttool That would be the logical progression but I don't think it will follow that way. Japan has had a long history of craftsmanship, they also have the kaizen philosophy of constant improvement. Taiwan is the only place left where the tradition Chinese culture still exists so the craftsmanship of China lives on in that small island. Most of China's culture and craftsmanship was lost in the so called Cultural Revolution. (It's a bit of an oxymoron.) All large industry in China is state controlled, quality is way down the list. The example to look at would be products produced by the Soviet Union. East and West Germany, so the same people, produced very different goods. Mercedes on one side of the wall and Trabants on the other.

Thanks Doc. I will take two Knipex and call you in the morning. 👍

It’s hard to tell, but are you comparing some tools with serrated surfaces, with the Knipex that has smooth surfaces? If so, wouldn’t this be the primary driver of whether they can bite into and cleanly tear small bits of paper?

You can't judge linesman pliers like that since there not supposed to touch because you don't want to smash wire as you twist them together
@lastbesttool3 жыл бұрын
I've heard that, but don't buy it. That would mean that the lineman plier companies would be baking in the inability to grab smaller things including smaller wires. I think it is because the cutting knives must line up fully under load which means there is no way to have the grabbing jaws also close fully. Plus the closure gap in the jaws is still plenty to smash wires.
@willhamilton91213 жыл бұрын
@@lastbesttool they can grad down to a 16 awg which is all you would need to twist togethet for most tasks and things your going to do, other than that smaller wire are "terminated" in to a terminal black or landed in a panel, etc. while I do agree you can still smash wires with ez, it just keeps you from tearing up more material on the conductors which that concept that is pounded in to our heads in school

I like Knipex because they make a high quality tool at a fair price. Snap-on has mediocre quality at a ridiculous price. Snap-on better watch out because the younger generation does not believe in the cult of Snap-on like the old timers did.

Cry all you want but snap on hand tools are the best hands down. Being USA made and having an amazing no BS warranty is just icing on the cake. Im a 90s kid to by the way who has owned everything from channel lock, crescent, husky, stanley and knipex.

As you're interested in precision pliers/cutters, take a look at Lindstrom and Erem. Arguably the best there is.
