That's pretty slick. I sold fasteners my whole career and mid 90's we had a similar promotional item strictly imperial made of plastic. It was so large you could just use a caliper 😂

I don't know Doc, I get a lot of exercise going back and forth to the tool box for the proper size socket.

I use the proven trial and error method…never fails, doesn’t cost any money, and works in tight spaces.

Didn't know that existed thanks Doc

I’ve been debating whether to get this

I just use a cheap 4" tin caliper. The one I have is sold by General (729ME), and it has a range of 4" rather than 1", and you can read both metric and imperial from the same side (don't have to flip it over) and it can measure inside and outside. It's not as cute, but it's about the same price (maybe cheaper) and arguably more useful for measuring lots of different things. Just throwing that in.

The link and a quick Amazon search show the tool is sold out for now. I hope it’s back in stock soon so that I may continue my streak for buying every tool you suggest.

Man you can't use a tool like that, Thats cheating. Everyone knows you carry the three most likely sizes that should fit. In sockets and wrenches. You line up all the others on the core support, battery box, filter cover, etc. Then before long you have a half a dozen sockets and wrenches laying around, looks like you are into something serious then.
@DKNguyen3.14158 ай бұрын
Three? We aren't made of sockts and wrenches and only have two hands. The other hand is needed to open doors. So just one.

Tbh as a working tech you need to be able to identify fastener (and tool) sizes on sight. First place I worked, a long time ago, you had to go to the stores for fasteners. (The company thought we’d steal them if they were out on the shop floor.) You had to tell the storeman the size & thread you wanted, so you learned very quickly ‘cos the storeman was a right grumpy sod!

There is something up with this tool, not listed on the Olsa site. Would like to pick one up but there could be some legal issue preventing the sale.
@elizabeththompson44248 ай бұрын
that's neat but I just grab another socket until it fits I usually guess pretty good hitting it right the first time but often it takes a couple of tries and if it's something I work on all the time I KNOW what it is!

What is the overall length of this tool top to bottom? Also do you think it would be possible to add a pocket click through the rivet at the bottom by repurposing an offset one (so it doesn't block the slider) from a pocket knife or do you think that would that hinder the way the tool works?

Not sure how useful this is. It's usually the thread size and pitch that matter. I have the checker types with the cable and just got a set in a case with separate checkers. It's really nice when they aren't all attached by the cable. When I am working on something and not sure of the head size I will always have my socket set instead of guessing and bringing 1 socket. Personally for me this would be useless.

Seems to be about as useful as a fart in the wind. Any chanic I know can tell you the size just by looking at it.
