Great test! I work for JOES Racing Products and I'm glad to see our economy gauge performed decent. We also have a pro tire gauge (model 32317) that is about $10 more that has a more accurate gauge head that we recommend for racing. The head is actually made by the same people that make Longacres, but we get the 2.5" head while they get the 2". We also have a digital gauge that is really accurate, and a $1,200 precision digital gauge that is stupid accurate that gets hand calibrated on a $20,000 fluke deadweight tester. When I get into work Monday I'm definitely going to share this video with engineering, product sourcing, and assembly. We are a small family run company of about 30 people and we are always trying to improve!

I've been wanting him to do this kind of testing for a long time. A lot of the products he tests are the same product with a different name on the box. The QC variance is huge with some of that stuff, and it has nothing to do with the brand. The fans he tested, for example.

This is an S-tier KZbin channel. I work in automotive repair, and have found a lot of consumer gauges to be barely usable. Nearly every major retailer is absolutely flooded by overpriced garbage with a few gems here and there. I have one of the gauges you tested and also found it to be inconsistent, but you'd never know it based on the glowing Amazon reviews page. Thanks to your testing, I'll be picking up a couple of Etenwolfs as that level of accuracy for $10 is unprecedented, and we'd never know it without this video.

@@TadpoleTrainer, China has trains that run nearly 200 miles an hour. If they can build those there's no reason they can't build anything to high precision, but it's simply a matter of how much profit can they make delivering cheap goods to the American and worldwide consumer. If everybody stopped buying Chinese made stuff for 3 or 4 months they might get wise, up their game, and produce a better product. Unfortunately, from the manufacturer to the distributor to the corporation that is having rebranded crap made in China for them to the end-user/consumer, NOBODY wants to rock the boat. Product must keep flowing, no matter how crappy, and distribution must be allowed to continue making profit off of it, and the consumer must be allowed to buy junk and promptly discard it, and fill up the landfill. Global capitalism knows nothing else.

They never called back, instead there was a replacement head in my mailbox a few days later. I had called because of it losing pressure. When I got ready to remove the original head, I discovered that it was coming unthreaded. I tightened it back up and it's worked perfectly for the last two years. It's also never loosened up either. I have the regular Jaco. It bleeds a little when removed from the stem, but works great. As having an older all wheel drive vehicle, I find it most important that all tires have the same pressure. Too cheap to get the TPMS system going again. I then use a stick Guage to double check, and they are always 1# off. Close enough. I check tire wear regularly and carry a Dewalt 20V inflator in the trunk, as well as a Jump n Carry 600. I've learned that it sucks to have a flat spare tire or a dead battery with no one to help jump start.

I keep one on my motorcycle, however, during the last trip, I had it packed away that I didn’t have access to the cage, and I forgot to check my tires before I headed out. So I just bought a no-name gage at a gas station and checked. I had a little panic because it looked like both my tires were low. I got back home. Got my Milton out. Got the compressor ready. And my tires were absolutely perfect. The no-name gas gauge was about six PSI off, which is dangerous for lower pressure tires.

I heard a story of a guy who destroyed 2 new tires on his travel trailer on a long road trip before learning his digital gauge was WAY off, so when the 3rd replacement tire was put on he questioned letting air out and "fixing" the shops overpressure and the tire survived... Then he checked his gauge and it was off by about 10 psi, causing him to under inflate all his tires resulting in tread separation.

Good test and I have seen similar results. The best guages use a locking head and have a bleeder valve. I've had great luck with Power Tank, Jaco, and Accu Guage in analog and digital, and they work well all reading within 1 psi of each other. I've recently used a no-name Amazon special, and surprisingly, it worked well, so I left it in a remote shop where I don't use it much, but occasionally need air in a trailer tire.

What was shocking was the variation between some pairs. It's actually worse if he bought the pair at same time from the same seller. They'd likely be from the same batch - so thats item to item variation. So a lot of them had little or no Q/A and/or degraded in transit. The ones claiming 1.5% accuracy should be within 0.3 lb at 20psi so even if the pair was the very highest and lowest they should be within 0.6lb of each other. Some were hugely worse than that.

Thank you for providing a resource to send people when they wonder why the tire shop overfills their tires and everything is 6psi low by the time they get home. I'm so happy you included the part with hot and cold weather. I love when I end up having purchased the product that wins in these tests. I researched and struggled with finding accurate gauges and ended up buying the Jaco digital gauge. It always seemed to be good, but I just never really know since I never had anything to test it against other than all the "unreliable" gauges I already have and use. So this just gives me that extra bit of confidence that I made the right choice, and that the research paid off. Thanks for your great work. Keep it up! My vehicles need tire pressures anywhere from 30 to 35 psi and based on your tests, the Etenwolf is perfect. Just ordered 2 using your link. Maybe you could do a version of this using those pumps that include a digital gauge, where you set the tire pressure you want, and it automatically pumps the tire until it reaches the pressure you set, then turns off. I bought a Husky 1002 882 919 and I like how it works, but now I'm going to check the accuracy with the Etenwolf when it arrives. I just want to say that I just ran across and watched your 4-year old video, "Does Project Farm Actually Farm? Let's find out!" Even though I love all of your amazing videos, your actual farming video was the most amazing one I've seen yet! Now, I've never been on a proper farm (my dad said he grew up on a farm-- and hated it!), but I found the machines you use and their care and repair, the mowing and collecting hay, absolutely fascinating! Living in Kentucky, I drive along lots of road and highways with those huge rolls of-- honestly, I had no idea what they were, or what they were for!-- but now, because of your video, I know! Farming is one of the least-appreciated but most important missions there is, so I wanted to say God Bless You and all of the other farmers that keep us from starving to death, I truly, truly appreciate the work you do on the farm, and wish God's blessing and protection on you and your family, always!

* No batteries to leak* is extremely important for a device that probably sits in the glove box or the toolbox in the back of the car and only gets taken out and used 3 or 4 times a year. For what it's worth, I only use Eveready Lithium-max AA and AAA batteries for anything that's going to sit in the car or in a drawer and maybe only get used or tested a few times a year. You definitely want the best batteries possible in a flashlight that's going to be stored/stowed away in the car!

Thanks for the great video. The Milton Dual Head gauge is available in a version that allows calibration. When I first bought mine, I found a racing shop that had a gauge calibration setup. They allowed me to check and calibrate my gauge for free. It was originally off by 1-psi or so at the pressures that I normally use (60-80 psi), so I calibrated it to zero error. About two years later, I re-checked it and it is still error-free.

Well done and meticulous. I have two Slime (from Ace Hardware) & two Merlin (from an auto body shop), use on overland trips; check when deflating & after inflating - often multiple vehichles. The small circular (read) units are functional, easy to view & operate, no batteries & light weight. Eons ago I used the pencil (sized) units thinking was the norm. Then I got mentored and never went back. The mechanics at the shop I go to have 'extension' on their circular units & they are very accurate. Thanks for the excellent report.
