Traditional ish recommendation. When you son is born, get him a knife to gift on his birthday and a polaroid to go with it (you him and knife). Something to look back on years down the line when you can let him hold onto it. A knife is a mans best friend and to look backwards from the future and say this knife has been with me my entire life and stood the test of time I think is pretty cool.

I can sell you on a Warrior Mini 2! Smallish diameter. Pocket clip can be attached to top or bottom. Magnetic tail cap. Instant access to 4 brightness levels from super dim to pretty bright with some others in between. Rechargeable battery. Not so expensive (like Surefire) that I'd be upset if something happened to it. One con is all that quick access makes it hard to hand to someone else. It's easily been my favorite true EDC light for a while and I don't see that changing. 30% off through the weekend, too!

I think the issue with Olight is any idea you give them they’ll just take it cause you “volunteered” it to them. There’s a fb group where they outright ask for ideas. From the very little I know about it, you won’t earn any percentage of sales or anything like that. They’ll credit your design in the group send you the light itself and a coin that’s about it. You know you’ll feel ripped off cause it’s your idea that’s selling but I mean idk start a contract first? I don’t know lol

I’m from Ventura County, California and every year since I was born my family has gone to a small town called Solvang. Small Dutch town in California that has a ornament store and each year we go and pick a family ornament for our tree. I continue this tradition with my family as well. I only missed one year while I was deployed to Iraq. Not sure if you have anything similar near you. Traditions are a must!

I'm watching this 3 weeks after it's posted, so you might not see this, but as a new dad myself(a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy), we're starting traditions. One of them is to start a bedtime absolutely right away, as soon as you can. Also, read to them EVERY NIGHT. Another one I started, more for me then them right now, i stated a savings account when we found out my wife was pregnant and put money in every month, no matter our finances, the kids get theirs. It's not much but it'll be a start when they need it. Kids don't care to much about traditions, now anyway but when they are older, it'll be the thing they remember most, so make em good ones and stick with them(can't be traditions if you're not consistent with them). Anyway, congratulations.

Little add to your gloves recommendation, from an ornamental metal guy. I adore the gorilla gloves. Spend the extra couple bucks and get the ANSI rated cut resistant version. Hardy, Milwaukee, Gorilla, etc they all make one. They are just as comfortable but last significantly longer, and are way safer when working around sharp edges.

Random dad tip: Have a chill zone in our house…. You need to get energy out - go upstairs or down but dis the chill zone! :) Secondly as kids get older give them 2 token days a school year. Sometimes kids just need the day and helps them plan… one of our kids takes both by December another uses at the end of the year! Best of luck for your next chapter…don’t forget those roots!!!

Kuh-NIP-ex. The K is not silent. The i in Knipex is a short i sound like tip, lip, slip, hip, ship, etc. Not a long i sound as in knife, life, wife, high, drive, etc
