The airport was away from the bustling old Ahmedabad, as well as the New Ahmedabad beyond the river. Now, even Gandhinagar seems near with highways and recently opened metro. People have gone farther than the airport itself and started living there, now the airport is surrounded by the residential areas and the Sabarmati River.

YOUR ANALYSIS IS WRONG !!! 2 runways for increasing capacity of an airport make sens only if they are parallel runways. i.e. in same direction like in Delhi. If 2 runways are of different directions and cross each others it does not solve capacity problem. Runways are directed as per prevailing winds !

You mentioned a newer terminal built in 2010, which hardly qualifies as recent. Terminal 1 has had a solar plant for several years. In your list of major international destinations, you overlooked key Middle Eastern cities like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Muscat, Doha, Kuwait City, Bahrain, and Jeddah, which account for much of the international traffic. Your claim about it being the busiest single-runway airport is misleading. Mumbai's intersecting runways mean it can only use one at a time, making it technically the busiest single-runway airport. Thats why Navi Mumbai airport is being made Delhi igi airport although it has 4 runways but at some point it will also get filled especially considering the small terminals, (except t3) So thats why jewar airport is under construction Look at nagpur airport, has lots of space, thats why proposal is there to a Build a 2nd usable runway and new terminals. Nagpur is also a Major airplane maintenance and repair operations or MRO facilities

When it comes to wheel chair passengers on arrival, experience of most passengers including that of my wife is hopeless and we try to avoid AMD airport. On landing wheel chair movers try and negotiate monies. Actually these wheelchair movers are paid employees of who ever has contract but they play on passengers emotion and try to get rupees and/or foreign currency. No other international airport has such pitiable situation, especially Mumbai and Delhi. As for Ahmedabad similar situation exists on departure for wheel chair bound passengers. So beware before using AMD airport.
