The lav cycle honestly is killing me, a loop that threatens my mind into mental regression. Basically - Saying some weird shit that sounds like it was meant to trigger everyone - followed by Steven, Eru, literally anyone else saying why its bullshit for her to word her argument like this- the walkback on almost everything - Destiny or Eru explains real points that people in general can make on the topic - Lav states "this is exactly what i said/meant in my argument" - Destiny explains once again that the way you phrase things are important - Repeat.

12:43 Lav's response to Erudite is actually an example of what is being discussed lol. Erudite to Lav: "When the criticism is targeted at you and Max, you do something similar where it's infinitely complex, but when either of you dish it out it's rather simple, clear cut, and supposedly obvious and true." Lav's response: "Well I think maybe Max does that, but I don't do that." For Max it's rather clear cut, for her however lol, it's "significantly more complex," as she goes on to describe how, for her specifically, it's just so much more nuanced. "That description of my behavior that I don't like, yeah I think it accurately describes Max... Huh, me too?... No that's not quite accurate, here let me elucidate you as to all the very important details you seem to have overlooked." No further thought or charitability is necessary as it's rather easy to toss him under the bus, but for her? Hold on a second there! Pump those brakes, I am not a speed bump! It's actually just so much more multifaceted and complex and we need to take a moment and discuss this! But make sure while we talk, you afford me every ounce of charitability you can possibly muster as it is completely warranted... Huh, Max who?... Forget that, let's just keep driving while we talk. This exchange is golden, as it encapsulates the topic being discussed in such a nice succinct package. 49:43 "Don't we all do it?" is not a refutation of an accusation that you did something, it's an admission that you did it...

Being empathetic doesn't solve the issue at hand, you either have to show that the person has the correct understanding of the situation (reinforcing her position and feelings) or challenge them if their understanding is incorrect. In Lav's case, she has the wrong understanding so Destiny tries to correct it. Being empathetic only means to be able to put yourself in someone else shoes as if you were living it yourself, that doesn't mean that you have to let their feelings overwhelm you the same way their overwhelmed them. Steven is in problem solving mode like most men who critically think are, but Lav would like Steven to be in braindead mode (just agree with everything I say without questioning any of it) which only leads to more of this stupid Lav shit.
@fergusdenoon12552 жыл бұрын
Challenging them if their understanding is incorrect wouldn't be empathetic. agreeing with them, taking their position because that's how they feel, would be empathetic, and then not saying anything about it because you know it will cause, upset, confrontation, would be empathetic, saying something confrontational, or disagreeing, would not be empathetic.
@shaungraen38922 жыл бұрын
@@fergusdenoon1255 dead wrong. you can be both empathetic and confrontational at the same time. Having empathy doesn’t mean “being nice because you know it hurts their feelings”. Having empathy means that you understand their position so much where you can not only explain the situation at hand, but also exactly how the situation is making them feel. Having that understanding of someone else’s perspective and emotions doesn’t now mean you have to 100% agree or give 0 pushback to show empathy. Your response here is why Destiny said that most people who use the word empathy really just mean “agree with me”

I'm no doctor, but I think Lav might be in love with an idealized version of Max that lives in her head because of their first interaction, wherein he threw a slew of highly abusive statements at her, and generally just shouted her down every time she spoke. It seems like Lav is the type of person who gets a rise out of that, and her first personal impression of Max has triggered a love bombing cycle, he can literally do no wrong in her eyes, no one can convince her otherwise, at least until her idealized image of Max is inevitably shattered, and she completely flips on him.

Omg girl lav you have to LEARN how to identify your emotions in real time and how to stop what you are doing when you act toxic. You literally are just excusing it. We know it's hard but that doesn't mean you don't put in the work to try and figure it out. I have bipolar disorder and I've struggled with this for a long time. My life became so much better when I stopped acting on impulse in my intense emotions and over time I got super good at noticing it in the moment. Just stop what you're doing and think when you get over emotional. Take a step back, a break and rethink it. Over time you literally won't have to do that anymore you'll start doing it in real time.
@lunaloveless72342 жыл бұрын
I still don't get why she's considered so young and thats why she acts like a 16 year old at 24? She comes off as someone who has been heavily enabled this entire time into not having to learn how to regulate her emotions. She's 24 lmao that's not young. You're kicked out of youth mental health programs at that age and you're a year away from being fully mentally developed and in mist cases you probably already are because development happens at different rates for everyone.

Two words: No accountability. Also hot take: Lav doesn’t care about Max, she’s an enabler and will watch as this man destroys himself. If Max needs help, he needs to stay off the internet and get serious help. Lav’s “advice” is completely counterintuitive to what might actually be best for him.

When Lav says MrGirl should surround himself with people that like him or want to be with him or whatever, she's missing the point that an audience exists to consume the art/content someone makes. No amount of individuals who understand Mrgirl will help him build an audience. If you're going to be controversial that's fine, no one has to stick around. No amount of "you don't understand him" will persuade someone to stay, because they do understand. They won't stay even by understanding, that's how fucked up people like Lav and Mrgirl can be to some people

I understand that from a certain perspective we're both young... But old enough to know better. There is a 0.01% chance I could have gotten away with acting the way she does when I was 24. I'm not calling her dumb, she's not. But not everybody gets the privilege of being a slow learner. Every fucking thing she does, someone else has to chime in and remind us of her birthday. Kids get their understanding of friendship and loyalty from books and movies. Sure when there's a war, when a king is trying to kill you and your family, you stand together with your mates through thick and thin. (Truth is though, in such an extreme situation, a person being "mean" or "disloyal" in some superficial way means almost nothing.) Kids (up to 25ish) haven't had enough serious complications to understand that loyalty does NOT mean compromising your standards for another person. Friendship is NOT entitlement to special privileges. Friendship is an endearment between two people. Sometimes it's just a feeling and sometimes a promise, sometimes both. Consider "endearment" though, what it means. You love chocolate cake, but you're on a diet. Despite the fact that you love it, you avoid it. That doesn't mean you no longer love chocolate cake. You avoid the cake to meet a goal/standard but no "feelings" are lost for the cake. If You eat the cake, because you love it, you wouldn't be doing the "right" thing. In other words: Just because I love my friend doesn't mean I'm going to wreck my life or compromise my principles for them. At it's most brutal: If whether "I" eat or "you" eat was the only decision that had to be made, "I" would eat. If you're my "friend" then I won't eat in front of you, but you don't get my portion. You understand? This is reality kiddos..

People need to stop confusing sympathy with empathy. Empathy is just a person's ability to understand what other people are feeling and thinking - putting yourself in other people's shoes. It has nothing to do with being positively predisposed towards what other people are thinking or feeling. Confusing this is ironically why so many people end up getting manipulated by charismatic psychopaths and other people on the anti-social spectrum - because they go around expecting anti social personalities to be socially clueless like they've got heavy aspergers or autism. Conversely, it's also why people feel comfortable calling others "lacking empathy" rather than grappling with the fact that your feelings aren't a cruise-control for sympathy or care.
