That's because you're expecting jokes - and the lack of canned-laughter, makes it impossible to tell where the punchlines of his weak jokes are. He is flailing his arms at Trump, listing the ONE of the two countries that has responded diligently to this crisis; Singapore and South Korea. Other than these TWO countries - NO GOVERNMENT IN THE WORLD has responded with due diligence. If anything - Trump has actually done a LOT more than some countries (like Sweden... which has done sweet fuck-all... and is TO THIS DAY - forcing parents to send their children to school at the threat of going to jail/loosing custody). Trump is a pile of shit.... but compared to ALL the other piles of shit... this pile of shit at least floats. John Oliver will never even recognize this... this is what makes John Oliver a partisan hate-mongerer intent to tear the country down. For example: Why does a leader say that the markets are doing fine? Because people are stupid fucking herd-animals. If you say "they will go to shit" people will sell all their holdings and thereby ENSURING IT GOES TO SHIT!!! I am 100% certain John Oliver knows this - which makes John Oliver an evil person... not just a comedian, but actually evil.

I was entertained but it also felt really sad. The gravity of what he says hits hard without the laughter in the background. I legit almost cried at the end just because of how honest his pleas are after 20 minutes of stark reality.

Here I am in 2022 rewatching this because autoplay is weird. I jokingly say to myself in fits of laughter with this show "we don't deserve John Oliver." But man, this dropped three days after things really started hitting the fan, and in retrospect I wish John Oliver had had some sort of fireside chat like this every single day of 2020. Funny, sincere, calm and collected with a real sense of urgency, but never panic. We really don't fucking deserve John Oliver.

Every leader needs a "challenge network" of those willing to say NO, to not laugh at every joke, and to give criticism. Commoners such as us take it for granted, but criticism is GOLD and everyone needs it.

It was only a nasty question because the Cheeto in Chief can't handle being held to his own actions. He's so damn pathetic. A real man would have owned up to his actions, THEN worked to correct them. Especially when it comes to disbanding a pandemic response team prior to a pandemic occurring.
