Great video! I couldn't figure out in my head how this worked no matter how many install videos I watched and you explained it super well, thanks heaps.

Been running twin lokkas in my hj61 for 2 years. Love em, only gripe i have us when driving on windy roads the rear lokka causes abit of understeer, easily sorted with taking more care an slowing into corners

Thanks for the upload. It’s helped me better understand how it works. Does it’s action happen in both 4wd and 2wd? I have a 2013 Hilux and I am trying to get my head around how it wil behave in daily driving? Noisy ? Clunky?Also how it would behave in sand where a turning wheel might not have enough traction to force the ratchets apart (I think I have that correct) thx again. Cheers
@LastXplorer4 жыл бұрын
The release pressure is almost finger light. I’ve had the patrol in sand with no dramas right turning at all. Noisy - I couldn’t hear it. 🤷♂️ Though the 4.2 is not the quietest of things. It only works in 4WD - when there is drive going to the front wheels. - Hillboy

this is so well explained. I was trying to explain this today and my head was hurting My only question is how much wear does this part sustain over time? or is it enough to not have to worry about replacing it?
@LastXplorer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris. It is not enough to worry about replacing. When the LOKKA is 'unlocked' and the gears are moving there is no load on them, so you get very minimal wear.

Thanks for the video. If front lokka is installed and 4x4 engaged, is there a risk when driving on sealed roads when turning?
@LastXplorer4 жыл бұрын
The LOKKA works on part time 4WD only - so you would never have 4WD engaged on sealed roads. We recently did a trip from Sydney to the Gold Coast of which we tried to keeps to dirt roads. Had no dramas with the LOKKA doing 80km/h through turns. The LOKKA actually unlocks quite easily (with very little pressure). - Hillboy

@@LastXplorer Thanks for that mate. So loose surfaces in between the harder stuff 40-50kph is fine? don't have to disengage 4x4. Appreciate you getting back to me so quick. Thanks again
@LastXplorer4 жыл бұрын
No worries - I just drove normally after installing it, which was engaging 4wd as soon as I hit the dirt. I had no dramas with the looser stuff either. It is a different feel driving with it - though I've done nearly 350,000km in patrols without a LOKKA so I'm pretty in tune with anything that is behaving differently. In around the tight stuff I didn't even know it was there - except for the fact I didn't get hung up on anything (even though I was trying to). In the mud, slippery tracks it was worth it's weight in gold. Walked up stuff in 2nd low other guys could get past - with comparable ATs. (and I hadn't bothered to lower tyre pressures). - Hillboy

I'd like to add to this I have a discovery 2 there full time 4wd with my centre diff unlocked do you think it would cause much of an issue?
@spacecruisers2 жыл бұрын
@@justinmanning2298 I’m wondering this as well. I have a first gen Toyota sequoia with a center locking diff and wondering how it would behave with a front auto locker like this or if I should just save up and get a selectable locker.

If I had the locker installed in my front diff. If i was out 4wding and had to do a hard turn would the looker put stress on my diff?
@LastXplorer4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dylan - I have the LOKKA installed on the front diff in the Patrol. It's not going to put any additional stress on the diff when you're lock to lock turning. In fact, I didn't even notice it in the tight stuff (literally going from lock to lock getting around some trees) Interestingly enough, it actually requires very little pressure to 'unlock'.The pressure that keeps the diff locked come from the drive pinion. When the outer wheel turns faster than the drive system (in a turn), it releases this pressure which enables it to unlock. Have a look from 2:43 on - I do a semi decent job of showing how it unlocks. - Hillboy

Am I right in saying the lokka is always locked then unlocks when turning? I have a Pajero Sport which has 2H (rear wheel drive) and 4H for bitchumen driving, would I lose the ability to drive in 4H on the road (not that I ever do anyway) because as there'll be drive going to the front axel the lokka will be locked?
@LastXplorer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex - yes, you are correct. The lokka is aways locked, and only unlocks when you are turning. And yes, you would lose 4wd on the black stuff. Unfortunately that is one of the limitations of the lokka.

Is this goes to your rear diff or front diff? Or can have them both? Thanks
@LastXplorer3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mate - sorry for the slow response. It depends on your vehicle - they make them for front an back of some models - just the front on some and just the rear on others. The patrol for example, they only make a front because the rear LSD is so good on them there was never a demand for the rears.

Is the front locker essentially invisible when 2wd, manual hubs set to free?
@LastXplorer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, sorry for the slow reply mate. Yes - the Lokka does not engage when you are in 2WD. It only engages when you have drive going through the system.

Just a quick question, when the outer wheel turns faster doesn't it create wear on those gears?

And also if possible, I see a lot people are having issues with lokka at the moment... I can't see if lokka is available for PX ranger? Really hope so... Would have bought front and rear lockers straight away if I could find it...
@LastXplorer3 жыл бұрын
@@Nortifyer - sorry. Missed your comment. When the outer wheel is spinning, and the LOKKA is 'unlocked' there is no load on the gears so you get very minimal wear. From what I understand, the PX is coming. They got hammered during COVID and have just been focused on getting current orders out.

Sorry for the slow response Craig. It depends on your vehicle. They only work on part time 4WDs. They do conversion kits for some models. You'd have to look at their website to see what's available for your 4WD.
