Just moving here from OC, I can say the DMVs in Nevada are 1000x better than CA. I made an appointment on Flamingo and was in & out of the DMV for a new DL and new car registration in 30 mins. To your point, even with an appointment in CA you will still wait for hours on end. Car registration was about the same $$$ unfortunately but overall, a really seamless process! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Laci! Great video! I just got everything switched over to Nevada on Monday, so the DMV process is still very fresh in my mind. Just wanted to point out a few additional things that will be helpful for folks to know before their DMV appointment: 1) The VIN inspections need to be done ahead of your registration appointment & you should receive a document that you need to bring with you to your DMV appt. VIN inspections are performed at the DMV office, but could be in another building. I went to the N Decatur location a week before my appt, and the VIN inspection was done at the little hut where the driving tests are conducted. There was no line and it took just a few minutes. Easy peasy! 2) Smog tests are needed on the 3rd registration and later (basically anything 2019 or older as of right now - my 2020 vehicle didn't need a smog test). This is still the case even if your car has never been registered in Nevada before. 3) Come to the DMV prepared with a screwdriver. They do not loan them out. You will need to turn in your out-of-state plates during the appointment and add your new ones to your vehicle before you leave! ~ Claudia :)

Can you do a smog test at the VIN inspection site?

@@kalani1987 No, those are done independent from the DMV whereas the VIN inspections are done at the DMV building. There are smog test locations all over the city though!

My 2018 plug-in Hybrid did not require a smog, so it depends on the type of car you have.

Switching my CA real ID and motorcycle endorsement to NV was super easy. Even registering my CA car was super easy. The hardest part for me was getting an appointment because it was super busy for months when I moved here. Otherwise, the DMV here runs really smoothly.

Here’s a tip from a local. If you go early as a walk in and get a “G” number just go home and Chill. Then come back around 4:30 and ask the desk (like you’ve been there the whole time) if you missed the call of your number (99% chance you didn’t but good to be safe) then sit down and your actual “wait” in the DMV goes from 8 hours to like 2

Thank you for a very useful video as I have been a resident for over 11years now. FYI I know that people like to label themselves as a "local" but getting a driver's license does not qualify as being a "local" until they have lived in Las Vegas for over 10 years and statistically most people that don't typically last over 3 years!!! Kudos to you for your channel :)-

We just moved from New York City. First time to DMV for the license didn't have an appointment because I wanted to get it done really quick instead of waiting a couple of months for an appointment. What a disaster, spent the whole day there! Had to get the license to change the insurance over to Nevada insurance. Got the appointment for the registration of 2 vehicles and a tow behind RV and it was great.

In NC we have to pay property tax on our vehicles when we renew our tags every year. I have a 2020 Silverado High Country with a personalized tag. It cost me over $800.00 a year to renew my tag in NC.
