Late December North Dakota Pheasants, Cold Nights, Balmy Days!

Got out one last time with the shorthairs to chase some pheasants, drove through rain and freezing ice to get there but we made it! Winter camping with the wood stove, cold nights but beautiful warm days with the exception of the last day which was colder but still a lot of sun, hard to beat especially after the last couple of Winters we've had! Saw lots of roosters and some huns too. I did a little acoustic guitar over some pics and videos of the dogs from this late season after the 2nd day. Not much beats winter camping for me, burning wood stove, meals, and just being close to the prairie, and of course most of all the dogs.....heaven in my opinion.

The warm winter has been a blessing, BUT it has also been perfect for the creation of cattail fluff! It's half the reason I wear a face shield when I hunt. Great work by the pups to come up with those birds time and time again! I've got a scar on my right hand from reaching for a pheasant at the same time as a hunting dog. It happens and is certainly not the dog's fault. Beautiful rendition of the Ballad of Jeremiah Johnson and montage!! Fantastic video, Tim. Hope you can get after 'em a few more times before it's all said and done.

Tim, what a wonderful video. Even when you were getting one hen after another, you were having awesome dog work. The more I hunt, the less it is about bag limits and more about the relationship with the dogs and there work. Thanks, that ice was pretty bad, seen lots of vehicles in the ditch that day, mostly truckers, had to wait about 45 minutes in one spot for one to be cleared from the road.

Thanks Steve, I shoot the Boss 2 3/4” #5 shorty, 1 1/4 oz of powder, 1,350 ft per second and they hit hard, copper plated bismuth non toxic, they hit very hard for sure.

By far the best pheasant hunting video I’ve watched this year, second to none. Congratulations! I use the 2-3/4” Boss #5 Legacy also but 20GA. The Warchief should be a much better round with the buffering. I still use lead ammo anytime I hunt private property.

The buffering material in the Warchief shells or Winchester bismuth shells produce a much better pattern (more pellets in a 30” circle).
