Late Night Exploration Of Ames / Hills. This is the store I filmed back in July with my buddy Andy. This time, I was a little intoxicated and felt especially bold to go inside and film for you guys during the hours of 3AM through 6AM. If I was sober, I would not have done this. Anyway, enjoy.

Apparently when Ames took over Hills they quickly closed the Hills around here and never set up their stores here.Probably because Gold Circle,Zayres,Best,Value City department stores,Gaylords Giant Tiger,Silvermans,Topps,Federal dept.stores,Woolworths then later named Woolco,Montgomery Ward,Fishers Big Wheel,Ben Franklin stores,SS.Kresges that became Kmart had all folded within the same time period.Just goes to show what a cutthroat business the discount department store racket is.That's a lot of stores in about a 40 year stretch.🆑

Nate. Theres an old hills still in pittsburgh in the fairywood community right outta ingram and mckees rox. I know the history of it and it closed as a hills and never reopened as an ames. It closed due to being in a very impoverished and dangerous area and poor location. You should make a video itd be cool.

Wallie, I live 5 minutes from that shopping center. Heads up, the demolition has begun on that corner of the plaza. I spoke to the demolition contractor from ICX and that particular building will be going down in March/April. I can keep you posted

Wallie if your ever come to New Hampshire there is an abandoned Ames untouched sign still on building . Building does have a few boarded up windows at the front but still in great shape

Worked for kings department store in 1976 when I was 16 . the store closeed in 1982 and became a flea market .that closed some years ago and the city built a police station.

Locking up candy is to keep employees from stealing it. I’ve worked at places that did that. Generally it’s when the stockroom is shared between different businesses, and keeps the other business from helping themselves too

There is a old Hills store in Champion Ohio at 4331 Mahoning Avenue which later became Ames that is occupied by Big Lots, Cheap Tobacco and Save A Lot. It still has the original entry doors and the area where the snack bar was is being used for cart storage.

I remember the rain check room when I worked at Ames. We gave people a certain amount of time to come pick there merchandise up. If they didn't we had first crack at it. If we didn't want it then they put it back out on the shelves. By the way Wallie great video.

Scott Lillis Thanks! And thanks for sharing your memory of Ames. I worked at Target for 6 years but we never did layaway or rain checks like that. The customer always came first so I never got first dibs on anything but that didn't stop me sometimes. Lol

Wallie, we had a layaway room at Ames. It was upstairs, and every so often we had to straighten the room up. I wish I would have kept my best and name tag. That stinks about Target. They should give the employees first crack at merchandise that customers don't come pick up.

@WallieB26 I just have to say something here, what you said at 17:34 is so true. It all depends on your "alcohol" tolerance. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people when they get behind the wheel drunk or semi-drunk they truly cannot drive and those are the ones that cause accidents and even kill other people along the way but, there is actually some of us "one percenters" out there, like myself, who can actually drink and drive just fine without any impairments in judgements whatsoever. If you're an individual who drinks on a regular basis and you got your alcohol under control, you can actually drive just fine without any issues. I've done it many times before, no problems.....and I usually drink about 6-8 Budlight Platinums which are at 6.0 Alc. by volume (btw, I only drink on weekends, not daily). What I don't get behind the wheels with is Marijuana. If I smoke a joint, I'm done for the day and I won't drive anywhere. Weed it's what gets me for sure. If I'm high on weed I absolutely CANNOT get behind the wheels of a car and just drive somewhere, that will definitely fuck me up in a different way in which I won't be able to drive. Weed definitely impairs my judgement and ability to drive for sure but, a six-pack of whatever beers doesn't affect me one bit.

I can't cross the police because they all know me personally 😂. My sister married a cop and therefore the local cops come over and just hang out at the house with us. It did come in handy the one time because an idiot former friend of mine got caught with drugs and told the cops they were mine (they weren't) and the cop was like "nah, I know her well enough to know that's a lie." And I never talked to that dude again.

I suspect what they were doing in the car was either a drug deal, or at 45:00 the dealer might have been picking up a dead drop from their supplier (looks like he/she was picking up/putting down something in a mailbox). Or putting money down for the supplier. If the movie theatre is in business though that's less likely. It would explain why the car was parked up so close to the doors. Or on a lighthearted note it could just be a young couple expressing their...er... love for each other and the guy was looking for a place to hide a condom! Edit: Looking at Google Maps street view & 3D view, it appears that the movie theatre is not in use. It's an interesting shopping centre though, I'm very surprised that the store was never repurposed considering it's literally 2 minutes drive from Walmart up the road. Maybe Ames' unit was too big for potential tenants to afford?
