At this point in my life, I must have heard, used and miked up hundreds of guitar amps and this has got by far the sweetest clean tone I've ever heard. Also, the lack of operating noise is astounding. It's one thing to make a pretty looking hand wired circuit, but the level of detail and understanding on show here is incredible.

I think what really enthuses me about this amp, is that if you want that classic palette of guitar tones both in the studio or on stage - you're looking at having something like a Fender Twin an AC15 and a Marshall setup. This is inherently a massive ball ache due to trying to find three examples of well maintained vintage amps, not to mention the logistics of carrying and setting them all up. With this amp (and a level boost/overdrive/fuzz or whatever floats your overdrive based boat), you could get any sound you wanted. Personally I wouldn't bother with any pedal based shenanigans, but that's just my personal taste. Truly a genius bit of design.

An excellent example of how obsessive behavior can yield tangible results; well done. Looking forward to the denouement... Have to say that I admire how you've simplified the controls. I can't seem to get past the need for mids and bass controls, but my topography is not modeled on Fender...it's probably a good idea to present guitarists with fewer choices...;)

When looking at a schematic or circuit how do you know if it needs a linear taper pot or a reverse audio taper pot? any tips

Will there be a version of the Excalibur with all three channels included, maybe using something like Vox's pre-'63 rear mounted Top Boost channel add-on?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
No, not enough real estate to do it right. Well, I could, but it would involve a complicated switching circuit that would raise the cost and complexity. And much of the beauty of this amp is the inherent simplicity. You could always buy two...
@anthonydratnal18703 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio fair enough. How about the MOSFET emulation of the EF86 which you mentioned several videos back, would that possibly leave enough room? Either way, I'm really looking forward to hearing that emulation - actual EF86 responsiveness in a roadworthy amp would be incredible.

Sounds great - how do the 'tight' and 'colour' circuits work? Is the circuit a 'trade' secret?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
Tight is a series wiring for a smaller coupling cap with no DC on the switch (so no pop). Colour is the Vox Cut circuit but with different value components and clockwise = brighter.
@bernhardnizynski44033 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio - thank you - that makes perfect sense!
@bernhardnizynski44033 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio - I guess you insert the additional series coupling cap between the main coupling cap and the grid of the next stage e.g. both caps would be in series in the circuit and the tight switch (off) would short circuit the second coupling cap?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but before the volume, not directly at the next grid.
@bernhardnizynski44033 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio - Thank you very much - I really like your work and look forward to the end product (the current stage sounds fantastic anyway!). I mainly use my 1964 Vox AC30 non top boost - I've done a little bit of tweaking but your research will greatly assist in improving my amps (I have two).
