Actually it isn't just humor. I've heard him talking about this never finished story in different events. So, it is a recurring joke from him, or it is an old idea what he'd never figured out.

His books most often have parts that are laugh out loud humor. He just prefers stories that are scary - he can make any character - all with personalities as complex and varied as the people you pass in any given crowd in real life - believably - make you feel their emotion Funny or not As someone who can make the sane seem crazy or even more disturbing - a psychopath understandable. Humorous characters just don’t evoke terror as his stories call for. Humorous situations though are always present. And besides - in real life he’s close friends w Dave Barry. Serious would not have room in that friendship.

I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Shit happens.
