Here's the next episode of Breaking Chords with Pivot Arpeggios.
This popular style of navigating arpeggios was introduced to rock players by the late-great guitar legend Gary Moore during his classic 'End Of The World' guitar solo from his 'Corridors Of Power' album. Once he gave rock fans an earful of these rapid-fire legato-infused arpeggio movements, guitarists were never quite the same as countless up-and-coming players took this fluid idea coming from Gary's fingers and pushed it even further.
This includes legends such as Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, and many other players. This style of arpeggio-playing allows you to use legato slurring between notes while making position-shifting and abrupt key changes possible with a few simple changes of the frethand and relocating the movements to other positions.
The ideas shared in this lesson include converting pivot arpeggio fingerings to include major 7th, minor 7th, and diminished 7th tonalities and sounds. After the basic shapes/fingerings are introduced, then we're moving these ideas through a harmonized major scale to flesh out an entire key, not to mention picking up a number of licks and phrases from players such as Steve Vai and Nuno Bettencourt. The additional licks really help to drive these ideas home and understand how you can convert these simple fretboard movements into some terrifying guitar licks, solos, and phrases.
