Here's the next episode of Breaking Chords with Pivot Arpeggios.
This popular style of navigating arpeggios was introduced to rock players by the late-great guitar legend Gary Moore during his classic 'End Of The World' guitar solo from his 'Corridors Of Power' album. Once he gave rock fans an earful of these rapid-fire legato-infused arpeggio movements, guitarists were never quite the same as countless up-and-coming players took this fluid idea coming from Gary's fingers and pushed it even further.
This includes legends such as Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, and many other players. This style of arpeggio-playing allows you to use legato slurring between notes while making position-shifting and abrupt key changes possible with a few simple changes of the frethand and relocating the movements to other positions.
The ideas shared in this lesson include converting pivot arpeggio fingerings to include major 7th, minor 7th, and diminished 7th tonalities and sounds. After the basic shapes/fingerings are introduced, then we're moving these ideas through a harmonized major scale to flesh out an entire key, not to mention picking up a number of licks and phrases from players such as Steve Vai and Nuno Bettencourt. The additional licks really help to drive these ideas home and understand how you can convert these simple fretboard movements into some terrifying guitar licks, solos, and phrases.

Hi Dave! You're talking about a diminished chord ... isn't it technically a half-diminished chord (m7b5)?

The best part of all these lessons is listening to your dynamic playing!! You are so fluid, and make these passages look easy. You always have killer tone as well. 3 things: 1) I would love to have a Troy Grady-esque breakdown of your picking technique, 2) How you dial in and shape your gear. 3) Information on your own personal music Thanks!

I think it's rather down up hammer-on on the second string. Although in theory your picking is more "correct" ...

The B flat-G-E-D is considered half diminished or minor 7 flat 5. Moving the D down to D flat would make it technically a "diminished" arpeggio.

What are you talking about? Pivot Arpeggios?? All you are doing is playing random 3 string patterns next to each other what is the difference between any other patterns ? The term pivot is a made up term.

Dave Brewster, why are you calling them PIVOT arpeggios, Where is the Pivoting note to modulate to a different key at? The Finger tapped note is always the ROOT note of the key?and you didn't show any harmonic minor Pivot Arpeggios

@mindcontrol67
@mindcontrol67 4 жыл бұрын
Wayne you should probably do some research on the notes that make up the chords he does the Arpeggios on to understand the pivot term.The notes tapped do not indicate the root note but an extension of the chord he is doing the arpeggio on or tapping to another note in the scale, Also Harmonic minor is not a chord but a scale, he is outlining chords here.But you could easily do harmonic minor tonality this way.
@waynegram8907
@waynegram8907 4 жыл бұрын
I'm confused about he means by pivot term, what does he mean by pivot? because pivot would be a common note between two different key centers but he is not pivoting nothing so I don't know what he means by pivot arpeggios
@mindcontrol67
@mindcontrol67 4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the pivot means to pivot or toggle between the root and the 7th note behind it.
@EarthAltar
@EarthAltar 4 жыл бұрын
@@waynegram8907 You're getting too hung up on the nomenclature, and missing the whole point of the lesson. All you need to know is that it descends through the 5th, 3rd, root, and 7th then ascends in the opposite order. Call it whatever you like, pivot arpeggios, two string arpeggios, 7,1,3,5 arpeggios, doesn't matter. Shut up and play yer guitar!
