Will this help my 17 year old high school wrestlers? He had a partial grade 2 LCL tear on upper side. It not detach from bone so Dr said no surgery. He was off from wrestling for 3 months. He just started to drill and wrestle live last week. He tweeked it a little bit on second day but was fine and kept going to practice. Yesterday he was wrestling college wrestler and his knee was getting yanked and tweeked so he stop wrestling cause it was aching/hurting on the side and a little bit on the back on the same side of LCL..He said it felt tender. Do you think he is returning too early to wrestle live, does he probably needs another MRI to see if is healing properly? Dr even gave him a Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to speed up healing. He has fool extension and can bend it normally. He can squat, rdl, deadlifts with no problem. Is just when it gets bend lateral that it hurts him..do u think he should do physical therapy to get it stronger and maybe just do drills amdstead of wreatling live? Sorry for all the question..

- My name is Jesse and I am a retired football coach I have and Associates in Health and Physical Education and also had my certification in sports medicine. I guess someone already suggested for your son to get an MRI on his knee and the way we handled knee cases in Division 1 football we always had 3, three knee specialist orthopedic doctors give us their assessment and proceeded from there. If your son is having a great deal of pain I would suggest he stop and do a significant amount of knee physical therapy before continuing. KT does improve blood and lymphatic flow which ultimately helps to alleviate pressure and reduce swelling but that doesn’t happen all the time. Get him evaluate by those 3 knee orthopedic physicians and take I from there. I forgot to mention that we did a great deal of taping of the knee with Elastoplast tape which by the way is not cheap but we used a combination of Elastoplast and Conform tapes to protect the knee and I am not a fan of knee braces. I hope I could help.

@@jathawk101 Good morning Mr Jesse. I need your great advice one more time . About 2 months ago my senior wrestled out of state. He wrestled 3 matches then a little bit after his knee was hurting where MCL is at. It was tender to touch. So the next day he was supoused to wrestle but he could not do to pain. First two days were painful but after that pain decrese to about a 4 or 5. He rested knee for 3 weeks but the discomfort and pain was the same about 4 or 5. He ended up getting MRI at kiser here in Fresno California and everything came out good. This is what orhto said. "Everything looked good structurally in the knee. All of the ligaments felt good. There is a small signal in the meniscus but it does not exit to the surface so it is not considered a tear. It should heal over time. He should take it easy until the knee feels better though.". Its just weird how everything came out good on MRI but my sons knee stills hurts. He is been practicing and wrestling live a little bit and also lifting with some discomfort. DO you think I should get a second opinion and have another ortho read the MRI? Thank you Mr jesse

@@futbol1972 - Thank you for your trust and I am so sorry your son is having so much trouble with his knee but let me remind you I am not a physician and the advice I give should be scrutinized completely. Now back to your son, did the orthopedic recommend an MRI or CAT SCAN with contrast because if the structure is good than nerve damage might be looked at and such a young age he is having too much pain. An orthopedic or your family doctor can order either but start looking at the nerves. I don’t know if I mentioned it but I am also a Vietnam Veteran who was injured and suffered a total spinal cord injury called traumatic stenosis which involves both bone and nerve damage. Anyway look at every angle of the knee and your son will need to accept the fact he must rest that knee for at least 6 months to 1 year. At that time he could do extensive knee therapy. The knees believe it or not are the weakest part of the body. I learned that REST and REHABILITATION are better than not being able to participate in the sport. Remember MRI or SPCAT SCAN with contrast but whatever happens don’t push it if pain is experienced while bending the knee STOP and rest. I hope I can help also remember I am not a physician but do have experience in sports medicine. Stay safe, be well and be happy.

@@futbol1972 - I forgot to mention a very, very important part of injuries and that is prescribed pain medication, whatever your son does DO NOT TAKE OPIATES to relieve the pain and here is why. He will just be adding a mounting problem to his recovery and there are other ways to hold the pain to a minimum like ICE which stands for Ice, Compression and Elevate. Also steroidal injections can cause more problems by attacking the organs like the kidneys and liver along with bone deterioration in other words brittle bones. Be careful what he takes withdrawals are not fun when trying to get off opiates or any narcotics. Thank You. 🙏
