I was just surprised when Bill asked "is there an expectation that we know who Jack Churchill is?". It's one of those things that I assume everyone who has had access to the internet for a while knows. @MyRegardsToTheDodo Жыл бұрын
He probably would have been executed by then. Because of his last name he wasn't treated like any other British POW after he got captured, but instead he was imprisoned with other prominent prisoners (the Nazis suspected him of being a relative of Winston Churchill). In April of 1945 he was part of a group of 141 prominent prisoners (imprisoned high-ranking military from other nations, high-ranking German political enemies of the Nazis, high-ranking policians from occupied countries, families of the Stauffenberg-assassination attempt...) that the SS transported to tyrol under orders to make sure that they wouldn't be taken by allied soldiers alive, so the SS basically had orders to execute the prisoners (including women and children). One of the prisoners managed to escape temporarily and make a phone call to the Wehrmacht, who then swooped in and freed the prisoners from the SS and basically let them go. Mad Jack then walked for 150 kilometers into Italy, until he reached the US troops.

I don't think the questions are centrally sourced. There was one (don't remember which) where it was pointed out that the person wrote the question himself, and another where the viewer who sent in the question was cited.
@panda4247 Жыл бұрын
@@losthor1zon yes, but I think the questions submitted by viewers are reviewed/picked by the same person who makes the rest of the questions. AFAIK David Bodycombe is the one. The fact that some of the guests were able to use their own questions, kind of supports my theory that the questions are not picked at random by participants, but assigned by the producer
@losthor1zon Жыл бұрын
@@panda4247 - I don't see that it supports that, though it also doesn't disprove it. But the fact that Tom referenced that a question was generated by the participant means he knew it would be, and therefore the producer at least must have known that also. The question might be whether they also vetted the question in advance. Which does seem likely, now that I think about it. For legal and KZbin reasons, at least, to make sure there isn't some rule violation in it. So perhaps not always "assigned", but at least vetted for content.
