MISINFORMATION: An earthquake listed as 6.2mi or 10km is an unknown depth. That means the geologist does not have the information of the depth to be recorded. You said, "that's a shallow earthquake listed at six miles depth." How do you know the depth of the earthquake, and how do you know the earthquake was shallow?

I guarantee you that it's probably deeper than 10km deep, as the distance from the plate boundary, the onu difference is the Chinese never mentioned the depth, just that they had an Earthquake. I would not be surprised if it was probably slightly deeper and hence slightly larger Earthquake.

Just a layperson here. We have 2 quakes of 7 or over and one was near Japan another more recent one off Petrolia. The mega quake could happen in either place?

Fun fact: On average, there are around 20 magnitude 7.0 earthquakes globally each year, and Humboldt County experiences a 7.0 earthquake approximately every 10-20 years due to its proximity to the Mendocino Triple Junction. Prior to the December 7.0 earthquake off Cape Mendocino, the last earthquake of similar magnitude in Humboldt County occurred approximately 30 years ago

This is a perfect example of fear-mongering. Describing two minor quakes as a ‘handful of earthquakes’ is misleading and exaggerated. Let’s be realistic-there were only two minor events the day before, both of which are completely normal for this region. There’s no need to sensationalize natural and expected seismic activity. COME ON!

However, calling two minor quakes, including a 1.5 from the day before, a ‘handful’ feels misleading. Accurate information is so important when discussing topics like this, and exaggeration can cause unnecessary worry

Tip of the iceberg my friend. He has, in the past, cherry picked data to make it look like earthquake levels in a certain area are "abnormally high" while missing the fact that the rate is entirely within the average. Might be fear mongering, or he's just a bad earth scientist.
