A useful lathe tool. I'm sure you'll see more uses as you use it. Also sure to help with setups even in non 4-jaw chucks.

Ouch, that sucks you lost a pile of gear and software. It's cool to see what people have for ideas of home made tooling - a number of us are working with "poor man's DRO's" and home built gear as we have to keep the cash flow in the right direction! Glad you're back up and running!

Thanks Everett, I have more ideas than money so I am always trying to think about how I can do things more effectively without spending money. The shops that have resources to burn may laugh at what us small guys do to get by but the name of my channel should tell you a lot about my mindset...LOL ~ Richard

As a new hobby machinist I look forward to your videos on how to make tools for the shop. I hope you are past all of your equipment failures. Having worked in IT for almost 20 years I know how frustrating it can be not to mention the expense in replacing failed equipment.

Makin Sumthin From Nuthin lol man I've just been in a funk. I've done so much recording, and all the footage is just there. Have not felt up to doing a video. I did have to make a spindal shaft for an old wizard from western auto. Couldn't find it anywhere. So I made one. Be interested in seeing how ya repaired the lawn tractor lol.

With a John Deere L110 the carb sits higher than the fuel tank and the way they route the fuel line under the deck it requires a fuel pump to send the gas up to the carb. I sealed up the fuel pump, bypassed the gas tank altogether and mounted a fire extinguisher up on the dash to gravity feed gas directly to the carb....works great. LOL

Hey Rich, I am definately going to make a pin-chuck slidey thingamajigies. I am thinking of drilling out the existing mig tip rather than buy larger ones if I need more volume. Good idea. Surge protectors for your electronics are a worthwhile investment. UPS even better. Get an external hard drive and use it for regular backups, but only plug it into the computer when making backups or doing a restore. Cheap insurance.

Whatever occured came in thru the fiber optic lines while I was sleeping, it fried 100% of of the phone company's stuff as well as 1/2 of mine. One computer got smoked, another had the ethernet port fried and 70% of my Adobe CS2 suite software wouldnt function...was quite the mess. Hourly cloning of all computers to multiple external drives is the best way for me to avoid additional data loss ~ Richard

Joe P. has tons of great tips & tricks, great machinist! I have seen the pin chuck sleeve on a number of videos and always meant to make one as I knew I had the small Albecht in the tool chest.....finally got around to it. If you provide a link to his video I will drop it in my video description, he always explains things better than me! LOL
@bcbloc026 жыл бұрын
Why not just run your indicol arms backwards towards the tail and mount your indicator on the tailstock body. Then you have no clearance issues and you won't have hot chips melting your indicator face.

🤔 That was my 2nd idea...LOL. Always appreciate you stopping by Brian. Hows progress on your HBM?
@RickRose6 жыл бұрын
Great video Richard! You don't have to explain anything to me about not making videos--I've been out nearly six months. I love that pin chuck sleeve! I just need something the size of that beautiful little Albrecht chuck to start the project. They're only $441.45 new, so that shouldn't be a problem, right? Your poor man's DRO footage made me go back and look up my own indicator holder project (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4nTe61mrLeBhbs). I never thought of mounting it longitudinally to measure quill travel, but now you've given me the idea to try. Thanks!
