Lathril, Blade of the Elves | EDH Three Ways [Commander Strategies for Every Player] Kaldheim Precon

Lathril, Blade of the Elves is a new Golgari (Green/Black) commander for Elves, that has been printed into the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse, coming to us from the Kaldheim Pre-constructed (precon) deck that will be hitting shelves at your LGS and local Wal-Mart: Elven Empire. This card has a nice token generator built into it and offers a strong drain to hit your opponents life for ten, and then you gain ten. Joel offers 3 different strategies (for every player) for building Lathril, each doing its best to utilize this new card to its best potential! In the strong category, we start things off with Unblockable Voltron-- make sure to get Lathril through, create tokens and protect our general, followed by fun: Elf Token Tribal: create tokens and use Lathril's ability, and finally, the mean way will focus on Aristocrats: we are making a lot of tokens. About the Three-Ways Series:
Some people like their chicken wings sweet while others prefer them scorching hot; either way, you are eating chicken. Magic the Gathering is a game with many different rules and building a Commander deck that works takes some time and strategy. Understanding the commander of your deck will help inform a deck-building plan that works for you. In this series, Joel discusses commander strategies for every player. This broad-strokes approach will give you a basic breakdown of the commander and three different ways you can build your deck to work with its abilities, without providing a full deck-tech.
What is Commander:
Commander, officially recognized on June 17, 2011, originated from a format called EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander-- there can only be one). The first time we played EDH was around 2009. It is easily the best way to play Magic: The Gathering. The idea was to have a casual format with 100 cards and only a single copy of any one card, with a General: a singular Legendary Creature card in its own zone that can be cast any time, once you have the mana for it. If your general is removed, it goes up by a casting cost of 2 for each time it is removed. Once WOTC officially recognized the format and printed the first Commander product, your General was instead called your Commander and instead of the format being called EDH, it instead became recognized as Commander. If you ever hear anyone say EDH, they are talking about Commander. Make sure to know the cards that are banned in the format before building your deck (listed below).

Was waiting for this one! I was deciding how to build it because I like the tap ability but that’s how I have my Inalla deck built so I was on the fence. And I’m a sucker for Voltron so I think you swayed me in that direction. I was surprised though to not hear doubling season or parallel lives mentioned. With all the tap effects in this deck too you don’t mind paying 5 for a doubling season because you get to use stuff with it that turn. Sweet vid though man! This is one of two decks I think I’m building with this set. Soooo many cards for my 99’s tho

Personally, I don't like Voltron builds. I don't like to build decks that are reliant on the commander. My main deck is a Selesnya human deck. My commander is Katila. I don't necessarily need her in the late game once my mana generation multiplies. So, she's more of an early game aid. With Lathrill, I'd just focus on making tokens and gaining life. She's more of a win con to me.
