I think people focus way too hard on Harvest Season’s “get 10 lands” potential. Tap 3 mana dorks and get three lands.
@dorsalfin223 жыл бұрын
I agree. You should compare it to cultivate not how it pairs with one card in your deck (Lathril in this case). This is an ELF deck. So many Mana dorks. All you need is 2 and it's better than a cultivate since cultivate puts one into your hand. That is such an easy threshold. They are way underselling this card here. Everything else is fine though

Agreed. Timberwatch was the only "take out" card I disagreed with. I've been playing with the deck and the power buff is so ridiculous that it's worth the fact it's telegraphed. Being a tap ability synergizes with the other untappers they suggested. I would take out the Soul Jar instead. Too slow and janky for reanimation
@chadrymoncordova29643 жыл бұрын
Agree, early in the game maybe turn 4 this works very well with Lathril since she has menace and usually 1 of your 3 opponents has only 1 creature in play this can atleast create you 4 tokens. But we play casual so may not be the same to your play group
@Disgrac3dd3 жыл бұрын
also agree. even tho its telegraphed, it becomes such a target which will take some aggro off of your other key elves. plus its an elf body in place of an instant combat trick for cards that care about the number of elves you control. not to mention its synergy with cards like marwyn, the nurturer

Yes they could work, but I dont think the synergy would be there if you just swapped one with the other. Lathril is make a bunch of elves and overrun or use her ability to drain. Great ideas! One thing I'd add about taking harvest season out, I get the point about not being able to tap consistently, but on the other hand we are adding a few things that allow you to tap your creatures for mana, giving more ways to tap creatures (outside of attacking) than the deck would've had before. That could lead to some insane mana levels. that in addition to the commander's effect it may be worth keeping it in. A fair argument could be made either way tbh but just some food for thought there

I agree to a point with the analysis of Voice of Many however two important points - First Voice of Many is an elf creature, a 3/3 which synergises with the deck. 4 mana is not unreasonable to draw 2-3 cards AND get a 3/3 elf. Second, because Voice of Many is a creature, it can be returned from the graveyard or returned to hand to be reused (for example with Wirewood Symbiote). It has the potential to be used 2-3 times in a game especially in Green-Black which specialise in returning cards from the graveyard.
@atk99893 жыл бұрын
For pact of the serpent, there is another use for it too. You can use it as a win con. Since it says target player and it's a generic tribal draw you can get an opponent to low life then drain them with it or auto kill decks like ragnar, ovar, or krenko, or any other go massive token decks.

First off: Harvest season regularly nets me 2-3 lands into play. for 3 mana I consider that well worth it, especially since sometimes it is 5+ lands, not always, but if you can find one turn mid game when one opponent is open to attacks from some 1/1 Elf Warrior tokens it can do wonders. Also: Taking out timberwatch elf because it makes something too much of a target seems off, like don't play good cards because it will make you the enemy? Even when powerful it isn't the sort of remove-on sight threat you can see in commander games.
@ShotensGaming3 жыл бұрын

so at 52:22, the Timberwatch elf, I actually think it would be better to keep in the deck because you can tap it at instance speed so if another player swings with a huge creature with trample, as long as you have a halfway decent board state you could block that creature. and the reverse is true too. because it doesn't list elves specifically you can equip it to anything with trample, again as long as you have a decent board state, and swing with it

The mini pre cons have a very "This is what we want you to do, and we are going to hard push you in this direction and also basically build the deck for you." Meanwhile the actual precons have a more, "Hey, this is the focus of the deck, but there's also these sub commanders you can try to build around if you prefer that as well." Mini pre cons feel like there is less experimentation to be had, whereas full precons feel like they give you many different choices.

I added Fynn to mine. Elves have deathtouch but are only 1/1s? No body going to block them. Surprise! Fynn! Don’t block you die to infect. Their board gets wiped by your tokens.

I found that any of the swords are really nice in this deck (if your not worried about the budget) I have been running the sword of war and peace and the sword of feast and famine is awesome in the deck (tho I think it's pretty good in any deck tbh)

Just got my Lathril deck checked for mid on Spelltable. Its a really fun deck to play with several win cons like wound reflection, throne of the god pharaoh and Ezuri. One of the best budget commander decks so far

I've never had a Harvest Season dead in my hand. I put it in almost every green deck and worst case scenario it's gotten me 2 lands.

Quick note from an Elf player: If you have Elvish Harbinger and Wirewood Symbiote on play, you are 100% not tutoring for Ezuri, what you want is Yeva, Nature's Herald, so you can play the Harbinger to tutor every turn. "Wait, but that doesn't work, Harbinger tutors it to the top of the library" Beast Whisperer, baby "Wait, but you require so much mana to reliably do this every single turn" Priest of Titania, baby! "And then you search for Ezuri for winning?" Booooooooring, what do you search for is Shaman of the Pack and you play it once per turn cycle (If someone actually survives!) or even more if you also add Quirion Ranger! That's why I love Elves SOOOO much, they can be so fun and so versatile. People tend to play them with Ezuri in the command zone and just smashing faces, that's why Ezuri is the top commander right now, and that's why people hate Elf decks so much. Don't get me wrong, Ezuri is great as a commander, but I would much rather have an extra color with Nath (Or Lathril now!) and some fun ways to win

I know it’s not in the budget, or at least difficult to make work; but I think kindred summons is one of the best cards for this deck.

what does kindred summons do?

Try adding in a Quest for Renewal or Seedborn Muse so you can clear the table by the time it reached back to your turn

that would be good

the reason the mana curve is so high is because of all of the manadorks and spells like Harvest Season. You have to have a lot of ramp and card draw to make them work. I would almost say its worth running a skull clamp along with Ezuri Renegade Leader for card draw and use manadorks and Harvest Season to get ungodly amounts of mana. You can use the tutors to get Ezuri and the manadorks so all you have to draw is Skullclamp

Incoming massive paragraph on Harvest Season / Timberwatch Elf 52:19 On Harvest Season. I think you guys got that card totally wrong. That card is probably the single best card in that entire deck. If you play tokens or can make lots of creatures its absolutely insane. Every time I resolve that card I get 5-20 lands. In the context of this elf deck or any deck that can consistently get 5+ creatures on the field its very powerful. Even if you get 1-2 lands worst case situation 3 mana for 1-2 lands straight tot he battle field isn't even that bad. Timberwatch elf is also high value. The amount of tokens you can make so early because the commander in this deck has menace is very large. Theres always at least 1 person that doesn't have 2 blockers. If either of them get stopped its no big deal because they are both 3 mana. You can live with those getting stopped and go big with something else next turn. Everything else in the video was really good.

In addition to the mana dork synergies, sometimes you can bluff a pump spell with an aggressive attack and come away with a super greedy Harvest Season. Easier to do with Ezuri on board for sure, but that bluff has rewarded me with some serious ramp.

100% agree with the wrath/targeted removal point. Went to the lgs and had 4 board wipes cast in the first game I played this deck, mostly to keep this(slightly upgraded) under control. The problem was no one else had a way to win so it wound up being a 2 hour game of passing turns. Terrible.

I use Harvest Season in my Kumena deck that taps a lot of merfolk, and with a bunch of mana dorks it also becomes a slam dunk. Honestly with two tapped creatures it's slightly better than cultivate.

Use more elf mana dorks. There are green elves that can tap for black and there are black elves that can tap for green. Harvest Season is also really good when you use mana dorks to cast it.

What personally draws me to Lathril over other elf commanders is that unique tap ability, so personally I want to lean into that more. With a few instant speed tricks like Elven Ambush, you can get to that magic number of elves just before you untap. Quest for Renewal can be a blowout. If you can get to 10 with Lathril one time, she'll turn the Quest on, and then you untap on EVERY upkeep, which means in one rotation of the table, you can activate Lathril 4 times - often enough to kill everyone. Suddenly your opponents went from having a few turns to find an answer to just straight up dead - especially if they'd been counting on, say, the player just to your right. Copperhorn Scout is a 1 mana elf that lets you attack with your army and then be able to hold back, possibly with a Lathril activation after she's just attacked. Or, it could let you activate Lathril twice in one turn.

One potential way to find the value of new mini-commander decks while also accounting for fluctuations in the quantity of new cards is to take the average value of each of the reprinted cards and using that as a scalar multiplier for the total number of cards in the deck. For instance, say deck A has 3 new cards and a reprint value of 80$ while deck B has 8 new cards and a value of 70$. That means that Deck A has an average value of ~0.82$ per reprinted card (80$/97 reprints), so if we then multiply that by 100 we find an adjusted value of ~82$. if we then do the same for Deck B we find it has an average value of ~0.76$ per card and an adjusted value of ~76$.

I bought this and switched commander for Abomination of Llanowar. Most of the cards you said to pull i did right away. I am wanting to do a deadbridge chant to get cards like elvish ambush back in my hand!
