Thank you! There’s at least 2 more in the series. (Possibly 3 and then I’ll get into something else). Could you do me a favor and please share the video? Trying to help as many people out there as possible!

64 years old and basically a rock drummer with pocket tendencies, I really appreciate this style of drumming as it not easy to play, I tune in just to watch you demonstrate and break it down. You’re a good teacher and a great drummer!

Free tutorial stuff with completely real time lesson. What can be better than that? What we all need right now is the breaking down of song form of latin music-like the Montuno part, mambo part etc. etc.
@JuanCarlitoMendoza13 сағат бұрын
That's what the series is all about. Not sure if you watched Part 1, but in Part 1 I explaine the claves, and different options for the verses of songs. This one is for the pre chorus/chorus sections. Part 3 will be Songo rhythms for the chorus sections and big sections of a song. And we will build and so on. Should be a total of 5 parts for this series. Here's part 1 if you haven't seen it yet. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqqYonyYqZuLoqMsi=_sr3Hkm9796QmXnK

I think I’m going get a foot mount to play left foot clave patterns just to drive myself crazy
@JuanCarlitoMendoza7 сағат бұрын
Go for it!! I didn't want to go THAT deep because the coordination has to be there, but have fun! Don't forget to do all the patterns in Son and Rumba clave. :)
@Gruuvin15 сағат бұрын
@@JuanCarlitoMendozaI was thinking about your left foot clave and glad you didn't add that too. Good call. But I want to learn them too, and you wrote it all out so well. Really groovin man.
@JuanCarlitoMendoza5 сағат бұрын
Thank you so Much! The PDF Has everything written out as well and you can print it out. But once you learn the hand patterns and are up to it try out the left foot clave.
@medallion395 сағат бұрын
@ trust me that I certainly don’t have the coordination. I messed around with it 20 years ago and didn’t get far with it lol

@ dude I hear you. Takes a lot of time, PATIENCE and perseverance. I did it because I was doing a lot of Latin Jazz gigs at the time and needed to put it in my arsenal.

Extremely specific question here, Juan: if I want to cover a salsa tune that already has a bongocero, timbolero, etc, should I just play the cross-stick and tom stuff over the top of it all, or should I only play very basic parts, in order to stay out of their way? Or a third option might be playing only count four on the tom, instead of playing "four and." This would allow the congas to still cut through on the "and" of four. A fourth option would be removing el todo la bateria de la cancion, pero yo prefiero el sonido de la secion completa. How do you personally deal with recording a drumset over the top of salsa material?

And one more thing, if you don't mind: when you listen to more mainstream Latin jazz, like Michel Camilo or Chucho Valdes, you'll hear the drummers play both tumbao notes on the bass drum. But in this video, and when I took a Skype lesson from you, you leaned toward only playing the first tumbao note. What are your thoughts on the two approaches? Thanks!!!!!!
