Blizzard of OZZ is what changed my life forever. I was 10 years old. Only "rock n roll" I knew of at the time was the stuff my older sister listened to which was stuff like: Rick Springfield, Hall and Oats, etc. Then her boyfriend (my now brother in law) drove up to our house and I was outside shooting hoops and I could hear this blasting, screaming guitar stuff, I'll never forget it. It actually gives my goosebumps just thinking about it again.. I stopped in my tracks walked over to his truck like in a trance and I just said, "Who is that"? And what I was hearing was Mr. Crowleys ending solo. He ejected the tape gave it to me to record, that next "allowance" I ran to the local record store and bought Blizzard, Maidens # of the Beast and Dio's Holy Diver. I've been a guitar punk ever since. I had Randy posters all over my walls up through high school. Randy was just amazing..

DamageIncM LOL! ...and I'm 28, so enjoying retirement! ...still working, though... XD To me, Slipknot and KoRn were bands that more or less introduced me to the harsher types of vocals, which I was disgusted by the first times I heard them. I really came to appreciate extreme metal with Children of Bodom, with Alexi Laiho's crazy guitar skills reminiscent of the late Randy Rhaods', guitarist for the better part (in my opinion) of Ozzy Osbourne's discography. Then the snowball grew bigger and I came to _really_ like all that was brutal. Now I see myself as more open to different genres, not only inside metal and rock but also in some rap, R&B, classical, etc., still with a penchant for *the* metal.

Some of the earliest memories I have in life was hanging with my dad and he’d be blasting sabbath, Metallica, AC/DC, and ozzy. Sabbath got me into playing bass, geezer butler was a genius. Played for 15 years. Learned every sabbath/ozzy song. Always thought randy was the best guitar player that had ever lived. Dude wasn’t just a musician, he was a composer. The modern Mozart. I always admired what he could do with a guitar but as a bass player, I never even thought about picking up an electric. Then one day I heard it. Randomly came up on KZbin. It was a soundboard of a ozzy concert right before randy died. During the solo to Suicide Solution, I was blown away what how phenomenal randy was. I realized that there was way more to the man than what you ever heard come out of the studio. I went and bought an electric guitar and started shredding. Ozzy might not be the best singer or writer, but there’s one thing he’s good at: surrounding himself with the best players to create that signature ozzy sound. Because of this, ozzy has changed my life twice

I have a somewhat similar experience. When I was little my Uncle Steve and his friends used to play Dungeons & Dragons and blast Maiden in the basement of my Aunts house. My mom would get pissed off every time I went downstairs. Long story short, I went down there one time and found an Iron Maiden VHS that was playing on the tv it scared the living shit out of me too. LMFAO. :-)

Why I love the shit outta JB: (4:02) This is where he talks about the Dia de los Muertos celebration at the cemetery. He was respectful and very careful not to say anything that could possibly be hurtful to anyone who has a strong sense of Mexican culture. It wasn't until Lopez said something demeaning about it that Black went there. Love this guy.

Then I got into heavy metal, when I listened to the album "Powerslave" by Iron Maiden for the first time -That album, and the band itself, changed my entire perspective on music in general! :o And alongside Maiden, I started listening to Helloween, Dio, old Metallica, King Diamond, Savatage & Iced Earth, and a few years ago, I began listening to Tenacious D ;)

Austin Dotson You know what sucks, metal wasnt a household genre with my family. They knew about it, but never played it. The only reason i even knew about it was because of the Mortal Kombat movie. Id be headbanging unknowingly to it and then id stop when the music finished. Next came Slayer from South Park. Skip ahead 11 years and i rediscover metal. Been one ever since.
