I second this. Rosemary in general is great for hair and skin. I use a tea made from steeping fresh rosemary and distilled water for my locs and scalp and rosemary oil added in. It works great and smells fresh. So I disagree with her on this one.

In the early stages, the best treatment for traction alopecia is to limit or eliminate hairstyles that pull on the hair. You may not have needed Rogaine in the first place

I am a testimony of hair care; oils, prepoo, & generally taking good care. Before COVID, I went to a hairdresser regularly. My hair wasn't doing badly. However, once COVID hit, I started taking care of my hair at home, using natural products. Two years later, I went to get a trim, and my hair dresser was shocked to see how much fuller, thicker & healthier my hair was. No more salon visits, only to get trims. Oils alone don't work, good care & regular routine does.

Facts. A clean detoxed scalp, massaging the scalp, glycerin and rice water saved my hair. Which fell out completely after losing my mom. Stress and mourning took a toll on me and my hair but that's what saved it in the end.

Now...I'm all about oil. I think it aids in hair maintenance and growth because of what's in it. However, it's not the end all be all. The key is consistency which is my main goal and you're right. Your hair changes throughout your life so it is what it is. I know folks don't like to hear "You do you". Truth is I can't do you lol. You gotta find what works for your hair and go with it. That involves work. There is NO quick fix. That's why it's a journey.

After getting locs, I learned that, in general, kinky hair thrives off of being protected and left alone. Find a good shampoo, conditioner, and sealant. My favorite oils to apply to scalp for growth and scalp care is tea tree and peppermint. The rest depends on genetics and your diet.

Yes! Yes! Care for and arrange it, then let it do what it does! I remember the first time I went loose natural (after 4 years of that I loc'd. After over 14 years of locs i am back loose natural). I had a love hate relationship with my hair for 18 months, because I was fighting my hair trying to make it do what I thought it should do. And it fought me back - like taking the comb from and whacking me hard then stubbornly rebelling. One day I was like, just forget it, applied the product and let it air dry. A few hours later, as it was drying, I realized it was doing exactly what I had wanted it to do all along, display its natural coil pattern - coils and springs going every which way. It was gorgeous! From that day forward, I only had two instruments of torture for my hair - a detangling comb and a rattail for if I wanted to do twists. Otherwise, it was simply my fingers. And my hair thrived.

I still haven’t decided on the genetics and hair cycles theories when it comes to length. Some of the elders in my family had really long hair and some had average length hair. I big chopped in 2014 and it took a good 4 years for me to learn what my hair needed. My hair grew during those years but my ends stayed dry so I was cutting what I was growing. I am now at bra strap length because I know when my hair or scalp need nourishment or moisture AND I stopped using commercial products. Most of what I put on my hair can be found in the produce section of the supermarket

Oof, yah it's a lot. Straight-haired women take like 8-10 years to grow their hair all the way down their backs (Ex: Natural Hair Healing, Katherine Sewing, Hollistichabits, Breanna Quan, Pretty Shepherd, and other women you can find on YT). Looser texture curl girls take 8-12 years to grow their hair down their back. But for some reason, us tighter coil girls want that same length in around 3 months. HOW SWAY?! And these other girlies can't tell us nothing or warn us about the time and consistency it takes bc we ain't trying to hear any hair tips, tricks, and/or advice from people who "don't look like me". When the truth is, the hair care business played the same tricks on them that it's now trying to play on us and we could have avoided a lot of wasted money and headache if we just looked at evidence and hair science of people who have been there and done that for years. *Edit*: included examples of straight hair community admitting about how long it takes for their hair to grow).
@Feelsbylex
@Feelsbylex 2 жыл бұрын
Down the back is 24 -26 inches long, hair grows half an inch a month, that’s 6 inches a year, tighter curl patterns don’t show true length unless stretched or straightened but no matter how much the curls shrinks it’s still naturally down the back damn near waist length depending on the persons height, within 4 years their at 24 inches of hair growth, 30 inches in 5 years. If a woman’s hair is not getting to those inches she’s not retaining her growth, and needs to keep it moisturized and trimmed. White women hair grows the same rate, it’s just straight and shows length way more then ethnic hair in its natural state.
@xrystal89
@xrystal89 2 жыл бұрын
@@Feelsbylex Yea typically or on average but it's no guarantee due to factors like environment, diet, pollution, weather, stress levels, learning to care for hair and accounting for mistakes and setbacks and so on. I meant all the way down, so about 30+ inches. 24-26 is about from bra-strap to waist. Though I imagine 26" curly would be around 28 or 30 on straight hair (indian, asian, native individuals also have straight hair).
@Aphrodite01
@Aphrodite01 2 жыл бұрын
@@xrystal89 that takes 4-5 years not 8+. Asian hair grows the fastest so it may take even less time for them. Black hair grows but it’s at a slower rate. Also, hair is easier to manage, easier to distribute natural oil, and less prone to knots/breakage in a blow dried/straight state rather than black natural hair. Black girls can grow hair but have issues with following a proper hair care routine and retention.
@seweetgirlnay
@seweetgirlnay 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter the texture of the hair. The rate of hair growth depends on genetics. Idk where you got 8 years from for back length...? Never heard or seen that. 5 years on avg.

I agree with all your points. After giving birth to my son 7 years ago, I could no longer handle my kinky bra strap length hair. I had Sisterlocks installed and been using one product ever since. A light moisturizing shampoo is all I need.

I agree about the hair oils. I have purchased my own essential oils and added them to carrier oils like Castor Oil, Almond Oil, Avocado, Olive, etc.... but I wasn't going to buy some "Special Growth Oil" that's been pushed continuously across social media. All of these other products and extra steps weren't used 20 years ago. Leaving hair conditioner on for hours...like a sponge once the max is absorbed no more is getting into the hair!

I still no longer deep condition overnight, but I never got mold or fungus. And actually those don’t just appear simply because your hair and scalp are wet-it has to already be present….because you’re not clarifying 👀…and only using moisture shampoos…yes I said it. Also I think the ‘hygral fatigue’ only applies to certain textures. I know my hair and it would have to be soaking wet for a few days to get to that point. Not damp overnight…but now I only deep condition every 1-2 months so 🤷🏾‍♀️ I’m considering going back to cowashing-never had issues with that either (because I clarify when I shampoo). It might help me save on rinse out conditioner. Oils are useless in my routine, that’s the reason I don’t use them. I also have an oily scalp. Streamlining the process needs to be in the spotlight for a awhile. These 1-2 spa/self care days are cute, but they don’t to overwhelm the bulk of natural hair care. I don’t understand junkism-use it or throw it away. I’m not keeping products I’m not using. When in doubt, use it with extreme gel.

I've pared down considerably on products and now know that my hair type loves shampoo and conditioner made for curly hair, a good leave-in and some oil to keep it healthy and not frizzy. Pick what works and stick with it but a life on hold for a wash routine? Things that make you go, "Hmmmm...."

We've all fallen into these traps at some point or the other, except the baby hair, cos my hairline is already touching my eyebrow, "laying" it just made me look ridiculous. As for the hair growth oil, it didn't work, all by it self, what worked was a consistent hair care routine/ practices which would have still worked without the oil.

I think the point here is avoid excess and flittering from one thing to the other without giving anything a chance. Also, make sure that you are addressing issues at their root cause (often a licensed professional can help, sometimes its common sense). Lastly, recognize while you can certainly improve on what you have genetically by meeting your health and hair's particular needs, if you were not born to grow butt-length hair, no amount of product, herbs, routine, or diet is going to get you that - be good with that and how God made you. With that being said, hair growth oils and teas DO work. I am a living witness. Rosemarry and nettle teas were always my go-to if I started experiencing excess shedding or thinning (thanks chemicals!!). It would stop both in their tracks and put my hair back to retaining its ability to grow profusely and long. Over the past year, I noticed a lot of thinning and gaps (I had locs). I started going back to the old remedies (rosemary, nettle, etc, infused in hair growth oil, black seed oil applied to the scalp to stop itching and burning, changing shampoos, etc.). When I went to a trichologist and told her what I started doing, she told me I was on the right track for managing the inflammatory alopecia she diagnosed me with. She added to observe how my diet impacted my scalp (i.e., was it itchier or "on fire" after certain foods versus others?), and to stay hydrated (hair and internally), and to limit refined sugar. 8 months in, the bald patches and widening parts have drastically improved or disappeared. Those who have handled my hair can't believe my story because it is so dense. But I got the receipts in pictures. 🤣

I believe the key is understanding your hair because when you know what your hair loves then you give it what it needs. Personally I believe the oils and butters just enhance.

I own four product: shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioning hair mask, and oil. I get sooooo many questions about my hair. I always refuse to tell my products because I’m like what works for ME works for ME. You do not have my head of hair my mamma and daddy gave me my hair ma’am. I get my sisters making content and selling products and I will never knock a hustle but I literally do the bare basic minimum and my hair has flourished. I 110% agree that people put far too much faith in products and I even understand that some people use growth products as a crutch to actually having a set routine paying attention to their hair and doing bloodwork to see if they have a greater underlying issue but to say that growths oils or growth serums need to be cut out… herbs the ancestors were using and passed down to us… it’s not a responsible statement. Does mean I didn’t support or listen or your cancelled just there is science in the onion juice and the herbs. Love you though❤

As far as “hair growth” oils if it’s mass produced doubtful because more often than not whatever is beneficial is hardly even in the oil.. LOL for me it’s growth not meaning length but thinning areas, breakage, it can work… like most things you need to know what you are trying to accomplish and is it realistic. Infusing herbs in specific oils helped me regrown patches of hair that broke off due to hormones and my own carelessness. But not to grow it down my back LOL

I think you gave very informative commentary. It made so much sense too me. I don't know why some people separate their edges from the rest of their hair. I know some people's edges are thin or broke off for whatever reason but it won't be because I part them off by themselves & put hardening gels & other stuff that's not helping them. I want my hair to grow like the rest of my crown & glory. I believe that's one of the reasons for edge issues & of course the tight tension but that so called baby hair thing I just don't get.
