makeup is so unserious to me so i kind of love the silly aesthetic names because it gives me inspiration (like for tomato girl i picture a fantasy where im in sicily in the summer eating tomatoes & it's just fun idk) the taking trends from other cultures is *side eye* but things like strawberry makeup are fun

Oh my gosh, Colin! Some people laughed at me because when I did a "latte look," I said it was a basic brown smoky eye. I was so excited to hear you call it that. I think people are chasing a few seconds of fame by naming something as if it's new. I remember when freckle pens first came out. I felt annoyed by it because, as someone who has freckles ... all of a sudden it was the new thing to do and oh how cute it was. I got over and realized they wanted something some of us naturally have ... like when you spoke about brown hair.

Hallo Colin, first love your take on the latté look. Personally I just see it as a strawberry 🍓 , tomato looks. More of a pink, red etc monochromatic look. I personally feel with these looks it's more of look in stash for what you have in these colors and how can I make it my way. Less you need this palette for this . Kinda refreshing than getting fomo for newest release.... oh the Oden's Eye helaween collection take my money 😂 ... the struggle is real.

Love this look on you! Lately I’ve been loving a slightly smudgy super easy neutral eye. I use LM caviar stick as a base with a powder shadow on top on the whole lid or just the crease. I don’t even wear mascara with it sometimes and that’s not a brag my eyelashes are almost invisible without it but I like the look. I actually really want to try one of the new merit shadows. Based on both positive and negative reviews it seems like my ideal cream shadow.

I haven’t tried the caviar sticks yet but they are on my list. Just got a mini sample size of the Bobbi brown one in bronze which I’m excited to use! I’m really interested in the new merit shadows but haven’t grabbed any yet. Maybe on a sale

Beautiful look! I like some of the trends, even some of the silly names. For those of us who have lived for a while, I think it's a fun way to make something old, kinda new again. It seems like most people who've done makeup for a while seem to like the Latte Makeup because it is something that can be pulled off using a lot of what we already own. IDK why Hailey Bieber seems to be such a "trend setter." I am a big fan of Nail Polish and I immediately couldn't take her seriously when she started "Glazed Donut Nails and Lip Gloss Nails" when it's literally just a basic sheer/shimmery white nail, like the MOST BASIC stuff and everyone acts like it's a "thing" so I think it can go too far and work itself into consumerism, but for those of us who know, we know we can pull off the look without directly buying into it. The younger generation just has to live and learn a little bit. No harm, no foul. Although I am interested in your thoughts about gendered trends particularly within makeup because I do believe its for everyone and we should make an active effort to include everyone, regardless of identity.

I dislike the trend of KZbinrs constantly taking trends off TikTok and trying to attract views on KZbin. I’m never going to download TikTok. I don’t care what anyone does on that app. As for the naming of trends, you are correct that it’s mainly a marketing tool. I remember people said this for “Clean Girl” makeup. It’s basically neutral tones that plays up your natural features akin to 90’s Supermodel makeup. Long nails and hair weave used to be “ghetto” now everybody does it. Interesting indeed.

I think it’s necessary talking things off of TikTok, a lot of people are on both and it’s just different sides to the same community. Yeah clean girl was an interesting one.

I think giving these trends cute names partially comes from romanticizing mundane things, but mainly it's due to SEO. I've seen people argue it's a good thing because it doesn't focus on specific products, therefore you don't need to buy anything to try it. But obviously brands and influencers will use these trends to sell products. Either way, I don't care for these micro-trends at all, because they can be summarized as glowy, soft, monochromatic looks. I like something more dramatic/graphic, so they don't appeal to me.

I don’t really take any of it very seriously. I think the names are silly. I recognize that it’s about marketing and like Logan Roy I don’t consider HB to be serious people 😂

I think the naming of these trends are dumb and it’s just another way for people on TikTok to get clicks and try to go viral. Nothing is new or revolutionary with makeup at this point. Latte makeup is just monochromatic brown makeup. Also most “makeup trends” are techniques are decades old from Drag makeup or Old Hollywood makeup with current MUAs, content creators and early 20 something year old TikTok influencers renaming and sometimes claiming to have started these trends. 🙄 I don’t really look at beauty KZbin now for makeup application advice. I know I’ll never be able to do a wing. My eyes are too big and round for a cut crease- so I gave up. I just like playing in makeup in my downtime or using lightweight makeup with one and done eyeshadows when I’m trying to look professional and put together. I don’t have TikTok. My employer doesn’t allow it even if it’s a personal account at home, and I don’t want it regardless. 🙂

Yeah the young kids claiming to have invented something we’ve been doing for ages is annoying. And feels new. I remember discovering new things as a teen and being excited but I never say people claim it was a new invention but that also could have just been my friends and experience vs the norm.
