Another fantastic tutorial! Can't wait to see where this series goes! Great to finally know the difference between Bsline and Linear interpolation.

Excellent! That B-spline issue where the mesh slips outside the lattice was driving me nuts. Also your way of teaching is so good. Next level really.
@LevelPixelLevel5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, B-splines have a nice falloff, but break to rig as soon as you rotate.
@lilianafortty25903 жыл бұрын
You can add an Armature Modifier to the Lattice, and check "Preserve Volume" in the Armature modifier settings. That`s going to let you work with b-spline and lattice! ... If you want to modify the lattice with vertex group, make sure that bones and vertex group has the same name.

NICE! what are the steps to create blendshapes in a mesh from lattice deformation - and eliminate the lattice - so the mesh with blendshapes can be inported into Unity?

This is perfect! This tool was the only real reason why I stayed working with Gmax because of the free form tools. Then I would just export my stuff to Blender. But I've been learning to use Blender and with this, I'm confident now that I can make things just the same as I've always have. Thanks for the great video!

Your tutorials are brilliant. Clear, concise information, explained in a very, 'let me help you', way. Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping lesser able creators, like myself, to develop and expand our own knowledge. I really enjoy your channel. Keep going, you are an incredible tutor. Thank you. Dg

I didn't want to give up on grease pencil but I just couldn't get anything prettier/more efficient than flat shader-to-rgb squash and stretch. And NOW I have to wait for your new series to come out because it's clearly VITAL. NO WAIT if I sign up as a patron I can watch them TONIGHT? alright hang on...
@LevelPixelLevel5 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah these work great for grease pencil as well. I'm going to be looking into that next using the features I mentioned here but converting them to a grease pencil setup.

Hi, I hope this a good palce to ask question regarding deformation. I started using cage mesh for body defromation and face deforemation with armature. Sometime it feels like, it is easier to manage body skin weight rather than cage mesh as cage mesh does not work very well with bendy bones. I also notice that In tutorials, people don't use cage mesh to deform boy. Is it really production friendly?
@LevelPixelLevel4 жыл бұрын
Mesh deform is okay, and if I am working on a smaller project I might use it. But for something like a tv show or a movie I would probably weight paint the actual geometry. While this might take longer, it will give you better control at the end of the process.
@morin66614 жыл бұрын
@@LevelPixelLevel Thats good know. I had the same feeling and agree with having more control with actual geometry. But I posting my question here, I also inspected sheep blenRig. They used cage mesh really well. I think that both of them will tneed time and effort.
@LevelPixelLevel4 жыл бұрын
@@morin6661 for sure, and both methods work well for production.

Is it possible to animate Lattices with armatures at the same time on the timeline without the use of shape keys?
5 жыл бұрын
Funny I was just reviewing lattices on Maya, we use to use these all the time back in the day ...!
@LevelPixelLevel5 жыл бұрын
I've been trying them out as well (in Maya) to compare how they work in Blender and see if I can learn anything from how Maya implemented them.

Great idea and super good tutorial - as always! I did have a problem though...I used the lattice for my grease pencil mouth. It worked really well until I went to record the key frames. The first keyframe was ok - then when I recorded the 2nd mouth keyframe it changed the first keyframe as well. So, thinking I did something stupid, I went to the first key frame and edited the lattice back...it then changed the 2nd keyframe???? it seems like the mesh (mouth) only remembers the last position and affects all the key frames.????? Thanks for any help you can provide.
@LevelPixelLevel4 жыл бұрын
We're you editing the lattice directly in edit mode? Or the object? If so this information cannot be keyed - if you want to do this you need to add a shape key for each frame, and then key this on from zero to one when you want it to apply. This is why I tend to rig lattices rather than rig them directly.

i was following a paid tutorial that left big gaps in the explanation of this, it was made even more difficult because the guy explaining was using a pc and the shortcuts for a pc, on a mac you kind of have to pull out a bit of hair in frustration trying to work out what the alternitives are ? lol
@LevelPixelLevel4 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, I learned how to use Blender on a Mac, but I'm on a PC again. I'll try to always say both, as the option key and the alt key can be a little off. Especially on a Mac if you using a windows keyboard!
