And what does it say about your environment? When you openly persecute a3 of the population you band their language band their church, exclude them from government jobs demand to know their private political beliefs and don’t even allow them to have proper citizenship or travel? Russia does that to none of its peoples yet you do that to the Russian people. What does it say about you when you openly honor Hitler and the Nazis, who had an explicit goal of murder and enslavement for the whole world beyond Germany, including you whilst you ban the symbols of the red army who sacrificed 14000,000 soldiers to save the world from that predation by the Germans? What does that say about you? What does that say about Latvia and the society of Latvia that slaughter and enslavement and hatred are honored and respected above inclusion and cooperation and heroism? You project the idea of Russian hatred and Russian aggression onto them, because those are your true feelings, and you cannot comprehend a heart that is not similarly wicked and hateful as yours.

I was born in communist Romania, under one of the most brutal dictators in Europe. One of my first memories of Communism was my mother telling me they could go to jail if I say to anyone that they are listening to Radio Free Europe, I was 5 years old. You don't fight Putin in Ukraine, you fight a mentality. 75% of the Russians voted for Putin, a thug, a KGB bully, who never cared about Russia, but only his personal interests and to keep alive an oligarchic system based on corruption and oppression. Anyone in its right mind can see that, not the Russians, though. Most of the former Communist countries in Eastern Europe are in a similar situation, with ruling parties having a Communist backbone. Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Belarus, Albania and all the countries from former Yugoslavia. All of these countries with few exceptions like Slovenia, suffer enormously from their common past and a political spectrum based on corruption and oligarchs just as in Russia. The main reason for this is education, or lack of it. The Baltics can't afford to misjudge the invasion of Ukraine, they were subjected to a brutal process of russifiication, and they understand better than anyone the dangers or Putin winning in Ukraine; for them it's a matter of survival, as NATO unfortunately doesn't want to understand that these countries could be overcome in a matter of days by an army of 2-300k of Russian orcs, before NATO could even respond. The Russian and Bielorusian borders need to be treated as possible invasion points and need to be fortified and NATO troops should be permanently based on countries that have these borders, this is the only way to deter this Russian madness. Unfortunately this will became a norm, this state of cold war that might end into a WW3, untill the Russians wake up from their nightmare, instead of discussing together on how to tackle global warming, climate change, immigration, social inequity etc, we have to invest vast amounts of resources in defense, just as we did since Stalin occupied half of Europe, almost 80 years ago. When it will end? When educating your population will became the only priority for any government on this planet, until then, we will crack our skulls as we did for hundreds of thousands of years.

The European Union is a scam. It’s an informal German Empire. It’s funnels workers and wealth westwards, and Zenzas products eastwards to drain them of their money, which then gets funneled westwards. I just checked the disparities in wealth and income between the eastern nations and the Western nations and the fact that only Poland and Estonia are the only Eastern nations doing better than Russia The former communist hub is all you need to know that the EU is bad for the poor members. The EU even admits this when it talks about how mysteriously the central and eastern members just don’t seem to be getting any better even as conditions continue to soar in the west.

So much for that. Then they tried democracy for about 1986 through 2009 and the end result was no fewer than three civil wars, 200,000 Russians dead, and 12 consecutive years of GDP decline. The polity we refer to broadly as 'Russia' has been shaped by an oppressive autocratic social order throughout its ~900-year history. While this might make being 'anti-Russian' appear reasonable, it's important to distinguish between the Russian state and its people. Many within the Russian Federation, much like the citizens of the German Reich in ~1936, are not necessarily in favor of Putin’s regime but are trapped in a system that fosters helplessness and apathy. It’s crucial to recognize that not all Russians, or those from other ethnicities within the Russian Federation, support Putin's actions. Many are victims of state propaganda and repression, unable to safely express dissent. Labeling all Russians as supporters of the 'Orc Horde' not only oversimplifies the situation but also risks alienating those who could be potential allies in resisting the regime. Overgeneralizing and labeling all Russians as complicit in the war efforts only plays into the narrative that Putin seeks to establish, of "Russophobia." It also mirrors the dangerous rhetoric used in past conflicts, such as during World War II, where entire nationalities were vilified for the actions of their governments. It’s essential to remain vigilant against adopting such views, as they undermine the complexity of individual experiences and struggles within autocratic states. There are documented instances of internal dissent within Russia, such as the mass protests in 2011-2012, the more recent anti-war protests, and the exodus of citizens following the partial mobilization in 2022. These examples demonstrate that opposition exists, even if it is currently suppressed or fragmented. By acknowledging and supporting these dissident voices, we contribute to a broader, more inclusive resistance against the Putin regime. Some may argue that the lack of visible resistance justifies a generalized opposition to 'Russians,' but this overlooks the severe risks faced by dissenters under an authoritarian regime. The absence of large-scale organized opposition does not equate to widespread support for the regime, but rather reflects the dangers and difficulties of resisting in such an environment. Instead of succumbing to broad generalizations, those who support Ukraine should strive to differentiate between the Putin regime, its supporters, and the many Russians who, either passively or actively, oppose the war. By doing so, we can more effectively support the forces of change within Russia and avoid inadvertently strengthening the narrative that Putin wishes to propagate. My take is to refer to all those who support Putin's genocidal war as "Orcs," for example when I referred to Willy OAM as "pro-Orc." My understanding is that the first use of this term to refer to Putin's forces in Ukraine occurred early in the war when a female Ukrainian sniper was commenting on a brief video posted to the internet about an atrocity which they had committed and stated that "They are not humans, they are Orcs . . ." and I believe that there is merit in this distinction, and I try to almost exclusively reference those serving Putin as the "Orc Horde." One might simply refer to them as "pro-Putin," or "Z-patriots" or a host of other terms but I think it is best to avoid referring to them as Russian. What is important is to use terminology which distinguishes between the Russian people as a whole and those actively supporting or engaging in the war. This distinction is crucial to avoid demonizing an entire nationality, many of whom may be opposed to the war or neutral out of fear or apathy. The term "Orcs" also provides a clear moral delineation, categorizing those who commit or support the Putin regime's genocidal war as fundamentally opposed to humanity. It is worth noting that this echoes the language of total war, where opposing forces are often dehumanized to justify resistance or conflict. There is also potential for backlash: While effective in rallying support among those who oppose Putin's actions, the use of dehumanizing language like "Orcs" risks alienating those within Russia who might be sympathetic to the Ukrainian cause but are put off by what they perceive as excessive rhetoric. However, I think it is safe to say that, lumping all citizens of the Russian Federation in with those who are actively perpetrating and actively supporting Putin's war is likely to cause more alienation among those within Russia who might be sympathetic to the Ukrainian cause. Using distinctions like "Putin regime forces," "Z-patriots," or "Orc Horde" specifically target those responsible for and complicit in the war, without alienating ordinary Russians who may be against it. This language respects the complexity of the situation and avoids painting with too broad a brush. Sticking to this kind of distinction also enables highlighting and supporting the voices of Russian dissenters, which may be a powerful tool in the information war. By showing that there is significant internal opposition to Putin's policies, it becomes harder for the regime to maintain the illusion of national unity. Historical parallels can be drawn to the resistance movements within Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy, where significant portions of the population either opposed the regime or were coerced into compliance. These movements, though often small and fragmented, were crucial in undermining the legitimacy of these regimes and should be a reminder that dissent is not always visible but can be powerful. In the end, our goal should be to isolate the true perpetrators of this conflict-those who wield power and enforce this brutal war-rather than condemning entire populations. The distinction between regime forces and ordinary citizens is not just a matter of fairness, but a strategic necessity in weakening the very foundations of autocratic power.

Perpetrators of the conflict are fundamentally the Obama administration and its allies within NATO. They agitated for the color revolutions across Europe, including the one in Ukraine, which replaced the popular elected president with a Nazi junta. The first thing this Genta did was send the troops down to the southeast, and then down their own citizens at a polling station, which made the rest of that minority freak, the hell out and decided they want out of Ukraine to which the Nazis responded by sending more soldiers down with explicit orders to kill them all because they were all considered terrorists. They were unsuccessful at this, so they created an eight year long, siege, deliberately using western intelligence and weapons to target civilian centers to kill as many people as possible. During this, Russia, on several occasions attempted to make peace. Dasha proposed joint peacekeepers, but was refused. Russia proposed UN peacekeepers, but was refused. Russia got a set of records signed on 2015 with a supposed backing of France, Germany, and Britain that were supposed to end the conflict but Ukraine kept on the genocide like it didn’t happen. Ukraine signed another set of records with Russia in 2019 and continued waging the war like it didn’t happen. Cords were supposedly backed up by several western guarantors, who proceeded to do absolutely nothing other than keep giving Ukraine, money and guns to perpetrate genocide. When Russia made its official intervention after eight years of genocide next-door, Ukraine was actually prepared to finally have peace with its delegation in Istanbul. They had a treaty diplomat, signed it and took it home, saying they would get it approved, but the Prime Minister of the UK showed up told Ukraine to not ratify it and so they kept the war going. Every step, Russia has tried for peace at every step of the west through the government of Ukraine, has insisted upon war.

Latvia, Lithuania and SStonia are internationally recognized independent countries because they retained borders drawn by the Bolsheviks while they were part of former Soviet Union. In the Baltic states, it seems ( other than Russophobia) amnesia is also very common, I think, because there is a lot of people who remember slowly, but FORGET QUICKLY how things were yesterday. The Polish Lithuanian Kingdom another example, they occupied Moscow for ,what, some 75 yrs, but that wasn't enough? Finland was part of Sweden, again, liberated by the Russians, before they were part of Russia( Finland) they were never an independent country.

Very insightful! But I wonder if we're giving in too much to Russian exceptionalism. We rightly criticize the Russian mindset of "Russia über allies." Conversely, perhaps we should not write off Russia in that its DNA prevents it from ever being a peaceful country. If Germany - with a similarly long mindset of exceptionalism and grievance - can change, then perhaps Russia could, too? Without being completely destroyed...
